1. Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and technically competent Assistant Manager – Production for the Heavy Structure Division to manage and supervise steel fabrication and production activities. The candidate will be responsible for achieving production targets, ensuring quality and safety standards, optimizing manpower and resources, and completing projects within the planned schedule.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Production Planning & Management
- Plan, organize, and monitor daily production activities for heavy steel structures.
- Ensure achievement of daily, weekly, and monthly production targets as per project requirements.
- Prepare and monitor production schedules in coordination with PPC, Planning, and Project teams.
- Ensure smooth workflow from raw material preparation to fabrication, welding, assembly, inspection, and dispatch.
- Monitor production progress against the planned schedule and take corrective actions for delays.
- Supervise fabrication as per approved drawings and specifications.
- Ensure proper execution of cutting, drilling, fit-up, welding, straightening, grinding, assembly, and finishing activities.
- Ensure correct utilization of fabrication machines, tools, tackles, cranes, and other production equipment.
- Monitor fabrication processes to minimize rework, rejection, material wastage, and production loss.
- Ensure proper sequence of fabrication and assembly to achieve maximum productivity.
- Read and interpret GA drawings, fabrication drawings, shop drawings, weld details, and material specifications.
- Coordinate with the Design/Engineering and PPC teams for clarification of technical issues.
- Ensure production is carried out strictly as per approved drawings, procedures, and client specifications.
- Identify drawing-related issues before starting fabrication and ensure timely resolution.
- Plan and allocate manpower according to production requirements and workload.
- Supervise fitters, welders, fabricators, gas cutters, helpers, riggers, and machine operators.
- Monitor manpower productivity and ensure optimum utilization of available workforce.
- Guide, train, and develop production supervisors and shop-floor workers.
- Monitor attendance, discipline, skill utilization, and performance of production manpower.Coordinate with the QA/QC Department to ensure compliance with quality requirements.
- Ensure proper fit-up, welding, dimensional accuracy, alignment, and finishing of fabricated structures.
- Reduce rejection, rework, NCRs, and customer complaints through effective process control.
- Ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented for recurring quality issues.
- Maintain production quality records and support inspection activities.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure strict compliance with EHS/Safety procedures throughout production activities.
- Conduct regular shop-floor inspections to identify unsafe conditions and practices.
- Ensure proper use of PPE, lifting equipment, welding equipment, gas-cutting equipment, and other tools.
- Coordinate with the Safety Department for toolbox talks, risk assessments, and safety improvement initiatives.
- Ensure safe working practices during heavy lifting, crane operations, welding, gas cutting, and material handling.
Material & Resource Management
Coordinate with Stores, Purchase, and PPC to ensure timely availability of raw materials and consumables.
- Monitor material consumption and minimize unnecessary wastage.
- Ensure proper identification, traceability, storage, and movement of fabrication materials.
- Monitor availability and utilization of welding consumables, gases, electrodes, tools, and other production resources.
Coordination & Communication
Coordinate with PPC, QA/QC, Engineering, Stores, Maintenance, Purchase, Dispatch, and Safety departments.
- Participate in daily production review meetings and provide updates on production status.
- Communicate production priorities and targets clearly to supervisors and shop-floor teams.
- Escalate critical production, manpower, material, quality, and technical issues to management.
Production Reporting & MIS
Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly production reports.
- Maintain records of:
- Production quantity
- Production achievement vs. target
- Man-hours
- Manpower deployment
- Machine utilization
- Material consumption
- Rework and rejection
- Welding/fabrication progress
- Pending activities
- Analyze production performance and submit improvement recommendations to management.
- Maintain proper documentation of production activities and project-wise progress.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in steel fabrication/heavy structural manufacturing.
- Strong practical knowledge of heavy steel structure fabrication and production processes.
- Experience in managing shop-floor manpower and production activities.
Required Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of heavy structural steel fabrication
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication and structural drawings
- Knowledge of welding, fit-up, cutting, drilling, assembly, and finishing processes
- Knowledge of QA/QC requirements and welding quality
- Knowledge of cranes, lifting, material handling, and fabrication equipment
- Good knowledge of MS Excel and MS Word
- Production planning and MIS reporting skills
- Knowledge of ERP/production management software will be an advantage
