Purpose of the Role
To identify, develop, evaluate, and manage suppliers for CNC machined components, castings, forgings, and related manufacturing processes while ensuring quality, cost, delivery, and continuous improvement.
Key Roles & Responsibilities1. Vendor Identification & Development
- Identify new suppliers for CNC machining, castings, forgings, fabrication, heat treatment, coating, and special processes.
- Assess supplier capabilities, capacity, quality systems, and technical competence.
- Conduct supplier audits and prepare evaluation reports.
- Develop alternate sources to reduce supply risks.
2. Technical Evaluation
- Study engineering drawings, GD&T, material specifications, and customer requirements.
- Evaluate supplier manufacturing feasibility.
- Review CNC machining process plans, tooling requirements, and cycle times.
- Assess casting process capabilities (Sand Casting, Investment Casting, Shell Moulding, Die Casting, etc.).
- Support suppliers in process optimization and productivity improvement.
3. Costing & Negotiation
- Analyze component manufacturing costs.
- Compare supplier quotations based on:
- Raw material cost
- Machining cost
- Tooling cost
- Casting cost
- Inspection cost
- Logistics cost
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and annual cost reduction targets.
4. Supplier Quality Management
- Conduct supplier quality audits.
- Monitor:
- Rejection rates
- PPM levels
- Customer complaints
- Corrective actions
- Implement CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions).
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or customer requirements.
5. New Product Development (NPD)
- Coordinate supplier involvement during new product development.
- Support APQP, PPAP, FAI, and sample approvals.
- Ensure tooling development and process validation.
- Track project timelines and supplier readiness.
6. Delivery Performance Monitoring
- Monitor supplier OTD (On-Time Delivery).
- Review production plans and capacity utilization.
- Resolve supply chain bottlenecks.
- Maintain uninterrupted supply to production.
7. Supplier Performance Review
- Prepare monthly vendor scorecards.
- Measure:
- Quality

- Responsiveness
- Capacity
- Conduct supplier review meetings.
8. Continuous Improvement
- Drive cost reduction initiatives.
- Improve productivity and cycle times.
- Implement Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S, and Value Engineering.
- Support localization and import substitution projects.
