Role mandate -
Senior technical authority for all software execution at InsideFPV. You define architecture, enforce code quality, and own integration discipline across GCS, onboard, and tooling layers. You guide and audit the existing developer, not manage scope. Roadmap, milestones, and backlog prioritization remain with the product lead.
Key skills -
QGroundControl (QGCS), MAVLink, PX4/ArduPilot, Android, Linux, Windows, C++/Qt, Kotlin/Java, Embedded Linux, Gimbal/VIEWLINK integration, CI/CD pipelines, SITL/HITL
Core responsibilities -
● Architecture ownership. Define and enforce software architecture across GCS, onboard modules, and companion tooling, aligned to product direction set by the lead.
● Code review and merge gating. Conduct rigorous reviews; block merges that fail quality, safety, or performance criteria. Final technical sign-off is yours.
● QGCS customization. Lead the development of InsideFPV's custom QGCS fork, integrating VIEWLINK gimbal controls, custom overlays, and mission modules into a unified GCS application.
● Cross-platform development. Own the build and release pipeline across Android, Windows, and Linux. Maintain build reproducibility, branching strategy, tagging, and artifact hygiene.
● Debugging and field triage. Own the debugging strategy end-to-end: telemetry analysis, logging infrastructure, crash reporting, profiling, and root cause resolution for field issues.
● Hardware–software integration. Interface with the CAD and testing subteams to validate hardware–software readiness. Define and enforce interface contracts at system boundaries.
● Developer mentorship. Assign technical approaches, review implementation, and elevate the existing developer's capability.
● Technical documentation. Maintain architecture diagrams, interface contracts, coding standards, and integration readiness checklists.
Required qualifications-
● QGroundControl & MAVLink - Hands-on experience forking, customizing, and shipping QGCS builds. Deep understanding of MAVLink message flows, parameter management, and telemetry pipelines.
● C++/Qt · Android (Kotlin/Java) - Strong proficiency in C++/Qt for GCS and cross-platform components. Practical Android development experience for companion or ground operator applications.
● UAV flight stack - Experience with PX4 or ArduPilot: parameter structures, flight modes, logging, and mission protocol behavior.
● Linux & Windows (embedded preferred) - Comfortable building, shipping, and debugging across both platforms. Embedded Linux (Jetson, RPi, or equivalent) experience is a plus.
● System integration under field conditions - Demonstrated ability to triage hardware–software interface failures, validate readiness under real-world constraints, and ship under pressure.
Additional bonus experience-
● ROS/ROS2 exposure for autonomy or sensor fusion modules
● Video and streaming pipelines (GStreamer, RTSP, or similar)
● SITL/HITL simulation and structured field test protocols
● Experience in defense, aviation, or other regulated engineering environments
● Real-time systems design and timing analysis
