About the Role
We are looking for a Field Officer / Farm Manager for a privately held cardamom estate in Idukki District, Kerala.
This role is best suited for candidates who have previously worked as field officers with agri-input companies (fertilisers, pesticides, crop protection, agronomy advisory) operating in cardamom-growing zones of Idukki. If you have spent years walking cardamom plots, reading plant health, managing grower relationships, and submitting field reports on time — you are exactly who we are looking for. Estate management experience is a strong plus but not a barrier; we will train the right person.
Qualifications
Preferably a diploma in Agriculture, Biology, Botany, or related streams. This is not a deal-breaker for candidates who are genuinely passionate about plants and have demonstrated field experience.
Eligibility
Open only to candidates between the ages of 28 and 50 with prior experience in cardamom plantation or agri-input field operations in the Idukki belt.
Skills Required
- Willingness to learn and adapt.
- Strong working knowledge of plants — ability to observe, identify, and respond to crop health signals.
- Plantation-specific or field-level agronomy skills — particularly for cardamom.
- Language fluency required: Conversational Malayalam, Hindi, and Tamil.
- Ability to drive four-wheelers and two-wheelers is MANDATORY. Experience in off-road driving on hill terrain is a strong advantage.
- Must be comfortable using smartphones for reporting, communication, and record-keeping.
Experience
A minimum of 3 years of experience in managing plantation labour or field operations is mandatory. Prior experience as a field officer with an agri-input company covering Idukki / Munnar / High Range territory will be given strong preference.
Primary Responsibilities
- Daily Plantation Management and Activity Planning (~30–50 labourers)
- Ensure that tasks and plantation activities are on budget and schedule.
- Ensure that material spend and labour productivity are as per plan.
- Crop yield is as per seasonal plan and quality targets.
- All transport and logistics managed as and when required.
- Materials: Ensure optimised use of inputs and materials without wastage.
- Tools & Machinery:
- a. All machinery and work tools maintained in working condition and ready to use.b. Machinery serviced at the right intervals.c. All machinery and tools accounted for at the end of each workday.
- Labour:
a. Ensure no labour issues arise; resolve proactively.b. Ensure timely attendance and that individual labourers meet productivity targets.
- Bookkeeping & Records: Maintain records of all farm activities; ensure timely submission of reports to head office. Digital-first record keeping preferred.
- Post-Harvest Activities: During harvest, the manager will also be responsible for post-harvest activities including curing, drying, grading, and dispatch.Work Timings
Work timings for this role are dynamic. The manager is expected to stay on the farm premises. Accommodation and reasonable use of utilities will be provided.
Attendance and Leave Policy
- Casual / Sick / Festival leave: 13 days per annum.
- Leaves during harvest season are not permitted.
- All leaves can be availed only upon prior intimation and approval from management.
- Any leave beyond the above can be availed in exceptional circumstances on a loss-of-pay basis, with prior approval.
- Sundays are generally non-working days. If the employee is assigned full-day work on a Sunday under exceptional circumstances, he/she shall be compensated for the day.
Remuneration
- Base Pay: ₹24,000 – ₹30,000 per month, depending on experience and skillset.
- Performance-based variable pay component applicable from the second year of service.
- Food will be provided as a monthly deductible based on actual canteen expenses.
- Accommodation on farm premises provided.
