Job Title: Training Officer – Capacity Building (Physiotherapy)
Reporting to: Trainer – Capacity Building (Physiotherapy)
Employment Type: Full-time
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience and will be at par with the sector and similar organisations. Other benefits as per existing policies will be applicable.
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week
Location: Ahmedabad (Head Office)
Sense International India is committed to rendering quality services to children and adults with Deafblindness/Multiple Disabilities (Db/MD) and to building the capacity of various stakeholders for the cause of deafblindness / multiple disabilities. The Training Officer – Capacity Building (Physiotherapy) will be responsible for designing, delivering and supporting high-quality capacity-building initiatives focused on physiotherapy interventions for children and adults with Db/MD, while strengthening the knowledge and skills of special educators, caregivers, partners and centre teams across locations.
A. Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
i) Capacity Building & Training (Physiotherapy focus)
- Design, develop and deliver training modules, workshops and capacity-building programmes on physiotherapy interventions for children and adults with Deafblindness/Multiple Disabilities (Db/MD)
- Train and guide special educators, caregivers, community workers, partner organisations and centre teams on appropriate physiotherapy techniques, positioning, handling, classroom modifications and use of assistive devices
- Provide technical inputs and guidance for Individualised Educational Programmes (IEPs) related to physiotherapy and functional development
- Conduct training needs assessments related to physiotherapy services for Db/MD and design appropriate capacity-building interventions
- Provide technical backstopping and demonstration support to centres and home-based programmes as required
- Stay updated on contraindications, best practices and evidence-based approaches in physiotherapy for children with multiple disabilities
ii) Programme-related & Content Support
- Develop and maintain high-quality training resource materials, manuals, case studies, success stories and documentation related to physiotherapy for Db/MD
- Maintain systematic records of all capacity-building and technical support activities
- Ensure relevant therapy-related knowledge, equipment guidance and assistive device information is available and shared with centres
- Willing to travel extensively for trainings, workshops, monitoring visits and personal skill development as per organisational requirements
- Support organising meetings, trainings and awareness programmes for promoting the concept of Db/MD
- Contribute to publication of articles, training reports, success stories and other material for knowledge sharing and public awareness
iii) Other Requirements
- Sign up for Sense India’s safeguarding policy, including child and vulnerable adults protection policies
- Work without any discrimination with students, families, colleagues and partners of various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds
- Draft content for in-house publications, training materials and reports
- Coordinate with Programme, Operations, Centre teams and other departments on training and technical content issues
- Support overall programme implementation and smooth functioning of capacity-building initiatives
- Willingness to learn from others and maintain smooth communication with co-workers, caregivers and partners
- Any other work as agreed with the reporting manager
B. PERSON SPECIFICATION
i) Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Physiotherapist (BPT / MPT) with minimum 2 years of relevant experience, preferably working with children with disabilities / multiple disabilities
- Demonstrated experience or strong aptitude in training, facilitation or capacity building
- Knowledge of computers (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, online platforms)
- Ability to analyse situations and adopt an effective course of action
- Takes initiative and offers new ideas
- Valid registration with the Indian Association of Physiotherapists and/or Rehabilitation Council of India
ii) Desirable
- Experience in developing training modules or conducting workshops
- Awareness of various assistive devices used by students with Db/MD / disabilities
- Good interpersonal and facilitation skills to work with people at all levels
- Strong written and spoken communication skills in English and Hindi (knowledge of Gujarati or other languages will be an added advantage)
- Problem-solving, negotiation and networking skills
- Personal commitment to continuous learning and professional development in the field of disability and physiotherapy
