A Fire Sprinkler Design Team Leader provides department-level leadership for the fire sprinkler design function and is accountable for building, developing, and leading a high-performing team of designers. This role establishes departmental standards, drives quality and accountability, aligns resources with business needs, and partners with operations, project management, and field leadership to deliver scalable, constructible, and code-compliant fire sprinkler design solutions.
Key Candidate Requirements (Must-Have / Highly Preferred)
To align with our current design workflow and project requirements, candidates should possess the following:
- Hands-on experience with AutoSPRINK is strongly preferred, as it is the primary design platform used by our team.
- Strong experience working in a BIM-driven environment, including Revit and/or Navisworks, with the ability to lead multidisciplinary coordination and clash detection activities.
- Demonstrated expertise in fire sprinkler system design is essential. Candidates whose experience is primarily limited to Fire Alarm, Clean Agent, Gas Suppression, or other fire protection systems without significant sprinkler design experience may not be suitable for this role.
- Strong understanding and practical application of NFPA 13 and other water-based fire protection standards.
- NICET Water-Based Systems Layout Certification is highly preferred. Candidates without certification should have equivalent hands-on sprinkler design expertise and the willingness to pursue certification if required.
- Proven ability to mentor and develop designers in AutoSPRINK, BIM coordination, fire sprinkler design best practices, and code compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, develop, and scale a department of designers to support operational demands and future growth.
- Recruit, onboard, coach, mentor, and evaluate design personnel to build a strong, accountable, and high-performing team.
- Establish and maintain department workflows, quality standards, review procedures, and documentation practices.
- Manage team workload, capacity, and priorities to ensure timely completion of design deliverables.
- Provide technical oversight for fire sprinkler layouts, hydraulic calculations, shop drawings, permit submittals, and coordination efforts.
- Ensure design practices align with applicable codes and standards, including but not limited to NFPA 13, NFPA 14, NFPA 20, IBC, FM Guidelines, and applicable state and local requirements.
- Oversee and guide AutoSPRINK-based design workflows, ensuring consistency and adherence to company standards.
- Lead BIM coordination, including Revit/Navisworks model reviews, clash detection, and multidisciplinary coordination.
- Partner with project managers, operations leaders, and field teams to improve coordination, execution, and issue resolution.
- Drive process improvement initiatives that increase consistency, productivity, communication, and design quality.
- Support planning for staffing, software, training, and departmental resource needs.
- Serve as the escalation point for complex technical issues, schedule conflicts, and interdepartmental coordination challenges.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, responsiveness, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
Required Skills & QualificationsEducation
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Experience
- 8–12 years of progressive experience in Fire Sprinkler System Design, drafting, or water-based fire protection layout.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing or mentoring fire sprinkler design teams.
- Proven success in developing departmental standards, workflows, quality processes, and technical accountability.
- Strong working knowledge of NFPA 13, NFPA 14, NFPA 20, IBC, FM Guidelines, and applicable state and local codes.
- Extensive hands-on experience with AutoSPRINK is strongly preferred.
- Strong proficiency with Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, and other BIM/design software.
- Experience leading BIM-coordinated projects involving multidisciplinary design teams.
- Strong understanding of hydraulic calculations, fabrication-ready shop drawings, permit documentation, and construction coordination.
- Excellent organizational, communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, changing priorities, and cross-functional teams effectively.
- Experience implementing workflow improvements, quality assurance processes, and operational efficiencies.
Preferred Qualifications
- NICET Water-Based Systems Layout Certification is preferred.
- Experience managing design teams supporting North American fire sprinkler projects.
- Experience developing and implementing AutoSPRINK standards and best practices.
- Familiarity with fabrication workflows, permitting processes, and AHJ requirements.
- Experience training, mentoring, and developing junior sprinkler designers in AutoSPRINK, BIM workflows, and NFPA compliance.
Pay: ₹10,000.00 - ₹200,000.00 per month
