Job Summary
Role Overview:
As a Silicon Photonics Engineer for ATE Systems, you will be responsible for the design, integration, and validation of silicon photonics–based optical interconnects and test solutions used in next-generation Automated Test Equipment. This role focuses on enabling high-speed, low-latency, and scalable optical test interfaces for advanced semiconductor devices, including optical I/O, co-packaged optics, and photonic integrated circuits (PICs). You will work closely with ATE system, electrical, mechanical, and test engineering teams to ensure reliable optical test capability in production environments.
Key Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
Design and integrate silicon photonics–based optical interfaces for ATE systems, including optical transceivers, waveguides, couplers, and fiber interfaces.
Support system-level architecture for optical I/O testing, co-packaged optics (CPO), and high-speed SerDes/optical modules.
Collaborate with ATE hardware teams to integrate photonic subsystems with tester instruments, pin electronics, load boards, and test fixtures.
Perform optical signal characterization, including insertion loss, return loss, BER, eye diagrams, jitter, and latency analysis.
Develop and validate optical test methodologies for wafer sort, final test, and system-level test.
Support bring-up, calibration, and troubleshooting of optical paths, fiber routing, alignment, and thermal stability issues.
Interface with device design and process teams to ensure test coverage for PICs, optical engines, and hybrid electronic–photonic devices.
Document system configurations, test procedures, correlation results, and qualification data for production release.
Skill Requirements
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, Optoelectronics, Applied Physics, or related discipline.
8–15 years of experience in silicon photonics, optical systems, or high-speed interface testing, preferably in ATE or semiconductor test environments.
Strong understanding of optical communication fundamentals, waveguides, modulators, photodetectors, and optical packaging.
Hands-on experience with high-speed electrical and optical measurements in lab or production test setups.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with ATE platforms and system integration (Teradyne / Advantest–class testers preferred).
Familiarity with optical transceivers, CPO, OSFP/QSFP modules, or integrated optical engines.
Understanding of signal integrity, thermal effects, alignment tolerances, and reliability for optical systems in production test.
Exposure to optic–electrical co-design, load board or interface board concepts for optical testing.
Knowledge of manufacturing test flows, correlation, GR&R, and yield improvement for advanced devices.
Other Requirements
Target Companies for Benchmarking:
Teradyne, Advantest, Keysight Technologies, Intel (Silicon Photonics), Broadcom, NVIDIA, Marvell, Cisco (optical systems), Ayar Labs, Rockley Photonics, Tata Electronics, Infineon, Engineering Services Companies supporting ATE and photonics
