Job Summary
The Commis Chef – Asian & Tandoor is responsible for assisting in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of authentic Asian and Tandoor dishes while maintaining the highest standards of food quality, hygiene, and kitchen safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare ingredients, sauces, marinades, and place for Asian and Tandoor sections.
- Assist in the preparation and cooking of Asian cuisine, including stir-fries, noodles, rice dishes, curries, soups, and appetizers.
- Prepare and cook tandoori items such as kebabs, naan, roti, tandoori breads, and marinated meats, seafood, and vegetables.
- Operate and maintain the tandoor oven safely and efficiently.
- Ensure all dishes are prepared according to standard recipes and presentation guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the assigned workstation.
- Follow food safety, hygiene, sanitation, and HACCP standards at all times.
- Monitor food quality, freshness, and storage conditions.
- Assist in receiving, storing, and rotating stock using FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures.
- Minimize food wastage and report any equipment issues to the senior chef.
- Support senior chefs during busy service periods and special events.
- Work collaboratively with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations.
Qualifications
- Certificate or Diploma in Culinary Arts or equivalent qualification preferred.
- 1–3 years of experience in Asian and/or Tandoor kitchen operations.
- Basic knowledge of Asian cuisine, spices, sauces, and cooking techniques.
- Familiarity with tandoor operations and bread preparation.
- Understanding of food safety and hygiene standards.
Skills & Competencies
- Basic culinary and knife skills.
- Knowledge of Asian and Tandoor cooking methods.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and food presentation.
- Team player with good communication skills.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays.
