Job Summary
The General Manager – Production will be responsible for leading the complete manufacturing operations of the plant while ensuring safety, quality, productivity, cost optimization, and on-time delivery. The role involves strategic production planning, continuous process improvement, manpower management, interdepartmental coordination, and implementation of Lean Manufacturing practices.
The incumbent will be responsible for achieving production targets while maintaining high standards of quality and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
1. Production Planning & Execution
- Develop daily, weekly and monthly production plans.
- Ensure achievement of production targets as per sales commitments.
- Monitor production schedules to minimize delays.
- Optimize machine utilization and manpower productivity.
- Coordinate with PPC for production sequencing.
- Ensure smooth flow of fabrication, painting, assembly and testing activities.
2. Manufacturing Operations
- Oversee complete manufacturing operations including:
- Fabrication Shop
- Welding Shop
- Canopy Manufacturing
- Powder Coating/Paint Shop
- DG Set Assembly
- Testing & Dispatch Readiness
- Monitor production efficiency and capacity utilization.
- Reduce bottlenecks across manufacturing processes.
- Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures.
3. Production Planning & Control (PPC)
- Review material availability before production planning.
- Coordinate with Purchase and Stores for timely material availability.
- Monitor production against planned schedules.
- Ensure optimum inventory utilization.
- Maintain minimum production losses due to material shortages.
4. Quality Management
- Ensure production complies with ISO standards and company quality requirements.
- Coordinate with QA/QC for process inspections.
- Reduce rejection and rework percentages.
- Implement Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective & Preventive Actions (CAPA).
- Drive First Time Right (FTR) manufacturing.
5. Productivity Improvement
- Improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
- Reduce manufacturing cycle time.
- Implement Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen and 5S.
- Improve labour productivity.
- Identify automation opportunities.
- Drive continuous improvement projects.
6. Cost Optimization
- Reduce production costs without compromising quality.
- Minimize scrap and wastage.
- Improve material yield.
- Monitor consumable usage.
- Optimize overtime expenses.
- Improve machine utilization.
7. Maintenance Coordination
- Coordinate preventive and breakdown maintenance.
- Ensure minimum machine downtime.
- Improve equipment reliability.
- Plan maintenance schedules with engineering teams.
8. Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Factory Act and statutory regulations.
- Promote Zero Accident culture.
- Conduct regular safety audits.
- Ensure proper use of PPE.
- Ensure fire safety compliance.
- Maintain housekeeping standards across the plant.
9. Inventory & Material Management
- Coordinate with Stores for inventory planning.
- Ensure proper material flow.
- Reduce excess inventory.
- Improve stock accuracy.
- Monitor slow-moving inventory.
- Prevent production stoppages due to shortages.
10. Team Leadership
- Lead and mentor production managers and supervisors.
- Build a high-performance production team.
- Conduct performance reviews.
- Identify training needs.
- Develop succession plans.
- Improve employee engagement on the shop floor.

Qualifications
- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Production or Industrial Engineering.
Experience
- 15–20 years of manufacturing experience.
- Minimum 8 years in a senior production leadership role.
- Experience in DG Set Manufacturing, Heavy Engineering, Sheet Metal, Fabrication, Industrial Equipment, Automobile, or Capital Goods industry preferred.
