About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and diligent Junior Resident to join the Department of Neurosurgery at our super specialty hospital. The role offers hands-on clinical exposure to a high-volume neurosurgical practice, including cranial, spinal, and peripheral nerve surgeries, under the close supervision of senior residents and consultant neurosurgeons.
Key Responsibilities Clinical Duties
- Conduct initial patient assessment, history-taking, and clinical examination of neurosurgery patients in OPD, IPD, and Emergency
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of case sheets, progress notes, and discharge summaries
- Assist in pre-operative work-up, obtaining informed consent, and preparing patients for surgery
- Monitor post-operative patients, including neurological status (GCS, pupillary response, motor/sensory function) and vital parameters
- Manage patients in the Neuro ICU/HDU under supervision, including ventilator basics and ICP monitoring awareness
- Promptly identify and escalate neurological deterioration or emergencies to senior residents/consultants
Surgical/Procedural Duties
- Assist consultants and senior residents in neurosurgical procedures (craniotomies, spinal surgeries, burr holes, VP shunts, etc.)
- Perform minor bedside procedures (suturing, dressing, catheterization, lumbar puncture) as permitted and supervised
- Maintain sterile technique and adhere to OT protocols
Administrative & Academic Duties
- Participate in daily ward rounds, case discussions, and clinical handovers
- Present cases during departmental academic sessions, journal clubs, and case conferences
- Maintain patient records, OT registers, and statistical data as required
- Ensure compliance with hospital protocols, infection control policies, and medico-legal documentation
- Take rotational duty shifts including nights, weekends, and emergency on-call as per roster
- Coordinate with nursing staff, allied departments (radiology, anesthesia, ICU), and other residents for seamless patient care
Required Qualifications & Skills
- MBBS degree from an institution recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC)
- Valid registration with State Medical Council/NMC
- Basic Life Support (BLS)/Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred
- Sound knowledge of general medicine and surgery fundamentals; interest in neuroscience/neurosurgery
- Ability to interpret CT/MRI imaging basics (training will be provided)
- Strong clinical acumen, attention to detail, and decision-making under pressure
- Good communication skills for patient/family counseling and interdisciplinary coordination
