The HVAC Project Safety Engineer is responsible for implementing and monitoring health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements across HVAC installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance activities. The role ensures that all HVAC project work is carried out safely, in compliance with applicable legal requirements, project specifications, client requirements, and company HSE procedures.
The Safety Engineer will identify workplace hazards, conduct risk assessments, monitor site activities, deliver safety training, investigate incidents, and promote a strong safety culture among employees, subcontractors, and other project personnel.
Key Responsibilities
1. Safety Planning & Risk Management
- Develop and implement project-specific HSE plans, procedures, and safety programs.
- Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), and risk assessments for HVAC activities.
- Identify hazards associated with ductwork, piping, insulation, equipment installation, lifting, working at height, electrical connections, testing, and commissioning.
- Establish appropriate control measures in accordance with the hierarchy of controls.
- Review Method Statements and Risk Assessments before work commencement.
2. HVAC Site Safety
Monitor safe execution of activities including:
- HVAC equipment installation such as AHUs, FCUs, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and ventilation systems.
- Ductwork fabrication and installation.
- Refrigerant and chilled-water piping installation.
- Brazing, welding, cutting, and other hot-work activities.
- Pressure testing, flushing, chemical cleaning, and commissioning.
- Lifting and positioning of HVAC equipment.
- Work at height, scaffolding, ladders, and mobile elevated work platforms.
- Electrical isolation and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) activities.
- Confined-space work where applicable.
- Manual handling and use of power tools.
3. Site Inspections & Compliance
- Conduct daily site safety inspections and toolbox talks.
- Monitor compliance with PPE, permit-to-work, LOTO, work-at-height, hot-work, lifting, and confined-space requirements.
- Ensure proper barricading, signage, access, housekeeping, and emergency arrangements.
- Inspect tools, equipment, scaffolding, lifting accessories, and temporary installations.
- Identify unsafe acts and conditions and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
4. Training & Safety Awareness
- Conduct site induction and safety orientation for new employees and subcontractors.
- Organize toolbox meetings and safety awareness programs.
- Provide training on HVAC-specific hazards and safe working practices.
- Promote good housekeeping and safe work behavior throughout the project.
5. Incident Management
- Report, investigate, and document accidents, near misses, unsafe conditions, and environmental incidents.
- Assist in root-cause analysis and development of corrective and preventive actions.
- Maintain incident and safety statistics and prepare periodic HSE reports.
- Follow up to ensure corrective actions are closed within the required timeframe.
6. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain and review:
- HSE plans and procedures.
- Risk assessments and method statements.
- Inspection and observation reports.
- Toolbox-talk records.
- Training and induction records.
- Permit-to-work documentation.
- Equipment inspection certificates.
- Incident and near-miss reports.
- Daily, weekly, and monthly HSE reports.
7. Coordination
- Coordinate with Project Managers, HVAC Engineers, Supervisors, subcontractors, and client HSE representatives.
- Participate in project safety meetings and inspections.
- Ensure subcontractors comply with project HSE requirements.
- Stop or escalate unsafe work where there is an immediate risk to personnel, equipment, or the environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s/Diploma in Safety Engineering, Industrial Safety, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Recognized safety certification such as NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA, or equivalent is preferred.
- Relevant certification in First Aid, Fire Safety, Work at Height, LOTO, or other specialist areas is an advantage.
Experience
- Typically 3–7 years of HSE/Safety experience, preferably on HVAC, MEP, construction, industrial, commercial, or infrastructure projects.
- Practical experience in HVAC/MEP construction safety is strongly preferred.
- Experience working with subcontractors and client HSE teams.

Working Conditions
- Primarily site-based in construction/project environments.
- May require working at height, outdoor exposure, and extended working hours depending on project requirements.

Pay: ₹18,000.00 - ₹35,000.00 per month
