Role Objective
The Utility Technician is responsible for operating, monitoring, maintaining, and
troubleshooting plant utility systems to ensure uninterrupted, safe, and GMP-compliant
operations in a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. This includes utilities such as HVAC
support equipment, compressed air, boilers/steam, chilled water, water systems
(raw/soft/RO/Purified Water where applicable), effluent treatment, and associated pumps,
valves, and instrumentation.
Key Responsibilities
1) Utility Operations & Monitoring
Operate and monitor utility equipment as per approved SOPs and shift checklists.
Record utility parameters (pressure, temperature, flow, conductivity, differential
pressure, etc.) in logbooks/records as applicable.
Ensure timely start-up/shutdown of systems based on production and facility
requirements.
Maintain continuous utility supply to production, QC, warehouse, and cleanroom
areas.
2) Preventive Maintenance (PM) & Routine Checks
Perform daily/weekly routine checks, lubrication, cleaning, and minor adjustments.
Support preventive maintenance activities as per PM schedule.
Replace consumables (filters, belts, basic spares) under supervision and as per SOPs.
Maintain housekeeping and 5S standards in utility areas.
3) Troubleshooting & Breakdown Support
Attend breakdown calls promptly and support fault isolation and restoration of
utilities.
Identify issues in pumps, motors, valves, piping leaks, traps, air leaks, chiller alarms,
compressor trips, etc.
Coordinate with electrical/instrumentation teams for complex faults and corrective
actions.
Support root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective and preventive actions
(CAPA) when assigned.
4) Documentation & GMP Compliance
Maintain accurate records: shift logbooks, checklist records, breakdown reports, PM
reports, spare consumption, and calibration/verification support records where
required.
Follow GMP, safety, and good documentation practices (GDP).
Support internal audits, external inspections, and compliance requirements related
to utilities.
5) Safety, EHS & Regulatory Compliance
Follow safety procedures including LOTO (Lockout/Tagout), PPE, confined space,
work-at-height, and hot work permit systems.
Ensure safe handling of chemicals used in utilities (water treatment, ETP chemicals,
cooling tower chemicals, etc.) as applicable.
Report incidents/near misses and participate in safety improvement initiatives.
6) Coordination & Shift Handover
Perform proper shift handover with clear status of running equipment,
abnormalities, and pending actions.
Coordinate with production, QA, and engineering for planned shutdowns,
maintenance windows, and utility changeovers.

Air compressors (oil-free/oil-lubricated), air dryers, filters, receivers, distribution
network
Boilers, steam distribution, steam traps, condensate return (if applicable)
Chillers and chilled water pumps, cooling tower systems (if applicable)
Water systems: raw water, softener, RO, Purified Water generation & distribution
(where applicable)
ETP/STP operations support (as applicable)
DG set support checks (fuel, coolant, basic checks) as per SOPs (if assigned)
