Job Summary
The OT Technician is responsible for assisting the surgical team during procedures, preparing the Operation Theatre, ensuring availability and sterility of instruments and equipment, and maintaining OT safety and infection control standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare the OT before scheduled surgeries and ensure proper cleanliness and readiness.
- Arrange and check surgical instruments, equipment, sutures, consumables, and other required materials.
- Assist surgeons, anesthetists, and nursing staff during surgical procedures.
- Perform proper scrubbing, gowning, gloving, and sterile field maintenance.
- Handle surgical instruments safely and pass instruments to the surgeon as required.
- Check the availability and functioning of OT equipment before procedures.
- Assist with preparation and positioning of patients as instructed.
- Follow strict infection prevention and control practices.
- Ensure proper sterilization and disinfection of instruments and OT equipment.
- Assist in shifting patients safely to and from the OT.
- Maintain proper count of instruments, needles, swabs, and other materials before and after surgery.
- Handle specimens received during surgery according to hospital protocol.
- Ensure proper disposal of biomedical waste as per hospital guidelines.
- Maintain OT registers, checklists, and required documentation.
- Monitor stock levels of OT consumables and inform the OT In-charge about shortages.
- Assist in emergency and urgent surgical procedures when required.
- Report damaged, malfunctioning, or unsafe equipment immediately.
- Maintain OT discipline, cleanliness, and professional standards.
- Follow hospital policies, SOPs, patient safety protocols, and NABH requirements.
- Participate in OT audits, training programs, infection control activities, and quality improvement initiatives.
Qualification
- Diploma / B.Sc. in Operation Theatre & Anaesthesia Technology or equivalent qualification.
- Relevant experience in a hospital OT is preferred.
- Freshers may be considered based on hospital requirements.
Skills & Competencies
- Good knowledge of OT procedures and surgical instruments.
- Knowledge of sterilization and infection control practices.
- Ability to work effectively with surgeons, anesthetists, nurses, and other healthcare staff.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to handle emergency situations calmly.
- Strong attention to detail and patient safety.
Key Performance Areas: OT preparedness, infection control, instrument management, surgical assistance, patient safety, documentation, equipment readiness, and compliance with hospital/NABH standards.
Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹25,000.00 per month
