Company Overview Sunshield Chemicals Limited (an adverse weather and specialty additives manufacturer) produces high-quality chemical intermediates. Our product lines serve global markets in Agrochemicals, Paints & Coatings, Plastics, Rubber, Lubricants, and Wire Enamels. This position is based at our state-of-the-art R&D Facility in Pali (Raigad, Maharashtra).
Job SummaryThe Research Scientist will drive original lab-scale synthesis, formulation development, and application testing for Sunshield’s core product lines. The candidate will specialize in Ethylene Oxide/Propylene Oxide (EO/PO) derivatives, functional specialty surfactants, and polymer stabilizers (Anti-oxidants, THEIC, and HQEE derivatives).Key Responsibilities
- Specialty Surfactants & Alkoxylation: Design and synthesize novel Non-Ionic and Anionic surfactants. This includes Alkyl Phenol Ethoxylates, Fatty Amine Ethoxylates, Fatty Alcohol Ethoxylates, and Block Co-polymers.
- Application-Specific Formulations: Develop custom emulsifiers, wetting agents, and dispersants specifically targeted for Agrochemicals (EC/SC formulations), Textile auxiliaries, and Paints & Coatings.
- Industrial Anti-Oxidants: Innovate and optimize Aminic and Phenolic anti-oxidant formulations used as stabilizers in Rubber, Tyre, Lubricants, and Plastics.
- Niche Additives R&D: Conduct research to enhance the performance and process efficiency of THEIC (for heat-resistant wire enamel coatings) and HQEE (as a chain extender for high-performance Polyurethanes).
- Lab-to-Plant Scale-Up: Author robust recipes, specify critical process parameters (CPPs), and collaborate with the engineering team to successfully transition bench formulations into commercial plant trials.
- Analytical Characterization: Perform and interpret surface chemistry metrics, including HLB optimization, CMC (Critical Micelle Concentration), surface tension reduction, and emulsion stability testing.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Colloid/Surface Science, or Polymer Chemistry.
- Experience: 2 to 7 years of industrial R&D experience, specifically within an ethoxylation, surfactant, or antioxidant manufacturing environment.
- Technical Competencies:
- Hands-on expertise in handling high-pressure ethoxylation/propoxylation glass and metal autoclaves.
- Deep understanding of esterification, amidation, and condensation reactions.
- Familiarity with the application chemistry of wire insulation materials (THEIC) and polyurethane elastomers (HQEE).
- Compliance: Strong commitment to Process Safety Management (PSM), hazardous material handling (EO gas safety), and strict laboratory SOPs.
