Job Summary:
A Gastroenterologist is responsible for diagnosing, treating, and managing diseases related to the digestive system, including the stomach, intestines, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, and esophagus. The doctor performs diagnostic procedures such as endoscopy and colonoscopy and provides patient-centered medical care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and treat gastrointestinal disorders and diseases.
- Perform procedures such as:
- Endoscopy
- Colonoscopy
- Sigmoidoscopy
- ERCP (if trained)
- Evaluate patient medical histories and symptoms.
- Prescribe medications and treatment plans.
- Monitor patient progress and provide follow-up care.
- Coordinate with surgeons, physicians, and nursing staff.
- Maintain accurate patient medical records.
- Educate patients about digestive health and disease prevention.
- Follow hospital policies, ethical standards, and safety guidelines.
- Participate in emergency and on-call duties when required.
Required Qualifications:
- MBBS degree from a recognized institution.
- MD/DNB in General Medicine.
- DM/DNB in Gastroenterology.
- Valid medical registration/license.
Skills Required:
- Strong clinical and diagnostic skills.
- Knowledge of gastrointestinal procedures.
- Excellent communication and patient counseling skills.
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
- Decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
Experience:
- Fresher or experienced candidates can apply.
- Experience in endoscopy/colonoscopy procedures preferred.
