Job Title: Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Technician
Job Summary
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Technician to perform non-destructive testing (NDT) and Dye Penetrant Testing (DPT/PT) inspections on fabricated steel structures, welded components, and industrial equipment. The candidate will be responsible for conducting ultrasonic examinations, interpreting test results, preparing inspection reports, and ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform Ultrasonic Testing (UT) and Dye Penetrant Testing (DPT/PT) on welds, plates, pipes, forgings, castings, and structural components.
- Conduct inspections in accordance with applicable standards such as ASME, AWS, IS, ASTM, or client specifications.
- Interpret UT indications and evaluate discontinuities.
- Prepare accurate inspection reports and maintain testing records.
- Verify calibration and proper functioning of UT equipment before and after inspections.
- Coordinate with Quality Control Engineers, Production, and Clients during inspections.
- Ensure compliance with Quality Assurance Plans (QAP), Inspection Test Plans (ITP), and project specifications.
- Follow all safety procedures and company policies while carrying out inspection activities.
- Assist during client, third-party, and consultant inspections as required.
- Maintain proper documentation of calibration certificates and inspection records.
Qualifications
- Diploma or ITI in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, Welding, or a related technical discipline.
- Valid NDT Level II Certification in Ultrasonic Testing (UT) as per SNT-TC-1A, ISO 9712, or equivalent.
- Additional certifications in PT, MT, RT, or VT will be an added advantage.
- Minimum 1–5 years of experience in UT inspection of fabricated steel structures, pressure vessels, pipelines, or heavy engineering components.
Required Skills
- Sound knowledge of Ultrasonic Testing principles and inspection techniques.
- Ability to read engineering drawings, welding symbols, and inspection procedures.
- Familiarity with relevant quality standards and NDT codes.
- Good analytical and reporting skills.
- Basic computer knowledge (MS Word, Excel, and email).
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Candidate Profile
- Experience working with third-party inspection agencies or manufacturing industries.
- Willingness to travel to project sites when required.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
