Job Summary
The Commis II is responsible for assisting in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of food items while maintaining high standards of quality, hygiene, and food safety. This role supports the kitchen team in delivering fresh, consistent, and timely food products that enhance the overall customer experience in the café.
Key ResponsibilitiesFood Preparation
- Prepare ingredients such as vegetables, sauces, meats, bakery items, and garnishes according to standard recipes.
- Assist in preparing sandwiches, wraps, salads, breakfast items, desserts, and other café menu offerings.
- Ensure food is prepared and presented according to company quality standards.
- Support the kitchen team during busy service periods to ensure timely order completion.
Kitchen Operations
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen workstations and equipment.
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for food preparation and storage.
- Ensure proper portion control to minimize wastage.
- Assist in receiving, checking, and storing food supplies.
Food Safety & Hygiene
- Adhere to food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards at all times.
- Ensure proper labeling, storage, and rotation of food items using FIFO (First In, First Out).
- Monitor food freshness and report any quality concerns.
- Clean kitchen equipment, utensils, and preparation areas regularly.
Inventory Support
- Assist with daily stock checks and inventory counts.
- Report low stock levels and damaged items to the Kitchen Supervisor.
- Help reduce food waste through efficient stock management.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with baristas and front-of-house staff to ensure smooth order flow.
- Support colleagues during peak business hours.
- Participate in training sessions to improve culinary and food safety skills.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certificate or Diploma in Culinary Arts, Hotel Management, or Hospitality is preferred.
- 1–2 years of experience in a café, restaurant, bakery, hotel, or quick-service restaurant (QSR) kitchen.
- Experience in food preparation and basic cooking techniques is preferred.
