The Team You’ll Join
You will lead a high-impact engineering organisation responsible for modernising a large-scale legacy Java/J2EE monolith into a scalable, API-first, cloud-ready platform that supports the next generation of financial services capabilities.
The team is focused on reducing technical debt, accelerating delivery speed, improving platform resiliency, and enabling business agility through modern engineering practices, AI-assisted software development, and incremental modernisation strategies. This includes driving domain decomposition, API enablement, cloud adoption, test automation, observability, and engineering productivity improvements while ensuring stability and compliance in a highly regulated environment.
How You’ll Contribute
As a Director, you will lead a team of engineers, architects, and engineering managers while serving as a strategic technology leader who can align engineering investments with business outcomes. You will be expected to foster a culture of innovation, operational excellence, continuous learning, and Forward Development Engineering practices.
- Lead the modernisation of large-scale Java/J2EE monolithic platforms into API-first, service-oriented, and cloud-native solutions.
- Define and execute technology road-maps aligned with business objectives, architectural strategy, and investment priorities.
- Champion a Forward Development Engineering culture by leveraging AI, automation, and platform engineering to increase productivity and delivery velocity.
- Drive adoption of AI-assisted software development practices across requirements, coding, testing, code reviews, documentation, and support.
- Lead and develop engineering managers, architects, and engineers, building a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous learning.
- Partner with Product, Architecture, Security, Risk, and Business leaders to deliver strategic initiatives and platform transformation programs.
- Establish engineering KPIs focused on modernisation progress, software quality, reliability, developer productivity, and customer outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, security, audit, and operational risk requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement through modern SDLC, DevOps, observability, automation, and engineering best practices.
What You’ll Need to Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Software engineering experience, including leadership of enterprise engineering organisations.
- Experience modernising large-scale Java/J2EE applications and legacy enterprise platforms.
- Experience leading people managers, software engineers, architects, and cross-functional engineering teams.
- Experience managing engineering budgets, resource planning, vendor contracts, and technology investments of approximately $1M or greater.
- Experience with modern software architectures, APIs, micro-services, cloud platforms, Agile delivery, and DevOps practices.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience within financial services, fintech, wealth management, banking, or other regulated industries.
- Strong adoption and advocacy of AI engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, OpenAI, Amazon Q, or similar platforms.
- Experience implementing AI-enabled SDLC practices, platform engineering, or Developer Experience (DevEx) programs.
- Experience leading cloud transformation initiatives on AWS.
- Strong executive presence with the ability to influence technology and business strategy.
- Demonstrated success driving large-scale organizational and technology transformation initiatives.
- Passion for mentoring leaders, developing talent, and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
