Roles and Responsibilities of a Lab Incharge1. Laboratory Management
- Maintain overall discipline and smooth functioning of the laboratory.
- Ensure the lab is clean, organized, and properly maintained.
- Schedule laboratory sessions and coordinate with faculty/staff.
2. Equipment Maintenance
- Monitor laboratory instruments and equipment regularly.
- Arrange servicing, calibration, and repairs when needed.
- Maintain records of equipment usage and maintenance.
3. Safety and Security
- Ensure all safety rules and procedures are followed.
- Maintain first-aid kits, fire extinguishers, and safety equipment.
- Train students/staff on laboratory safety practices.
- Prevent unauthorized access to the laboratory.
4. Inventory and Stock Control
- Maintain stock registers for chemicals, tools, instruments, and consumables.
- Check availability of materials before practical sessions.
- Raise purchase requests for required items.
- Monitor proper storage and disposal of chemicals/materials.
5. Assistance During Practical Sessions
- Prepare laboratory setups before experiments.
- Assist teachers, researchers, or technicians during practical work.
- Demonstrate proper use of equipment and instruments.
6. Documentation and Record Keeping
- Maintain attendance, usage logs, stock registers, and lab records.
- Prepare reports related to laboratory activities and expenses.
- Keep updated manuals, SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), and safety guidelines.
7. Quality Control
- Ensure accuracy and reliability of laboratory procedures and results.
- Follow institutional and regulatory standards.
8. Student/Staff Support
- Guide students in handling equipment correctly.
- Resolve basic technical issues in the laboratory.
- Coordinate with management and other departments when required.
9. Waste Disposal
- Ensure safe disposal of chemical, biological, or electronic waste according to regulations.
10. Compliance
- Ensure the laboratory follows institutional policies and government regulations.
- Participate in inspections and audits.
