Role Summary
Therm-X is expanding its suite of internal software platforms, tools, and scripts that support engineering, manufacturing, and test operations across the organization — spanning web-based management systems, database and system integrations, desktop field clients, and automation for test and measurement equipment. We are hiring a Software Engineer to help develop, extend, and maintain these internal systems as part of a small, high-ownership team based in our India remote support facility.
This is a hands-on, full-stack software engineering role. A core part of how we work is AI-assisted, agentic programming — engineers work fluently alongside AI coding agents to design, draft, refactor, and test code, and are expected to critically review and take full ownership of the results. A strong foundation in programming and computer science is essential, because the engineer must judge correctness, structure, and maintainability rather than simply accept generated output.
The role starts as a single contributor and is expected to grow to a team of two to three as the platform expands.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, extend, and maintain web application features and internal tools across the full stack (backend, database, and front end), from design through deployment.
- Work alongside AI coding agents as a primary development tool — directing them effectively, then reviewing, debugging, testing, and owning the code they produce.
- Integrate internal platforms with external systems and services (ERP, Microsoft 365 / Graph, document stores, and internal APIs) to enable reliable data flow.
- Develop and maintain automation for test and measurement systems — e.g., scripting data capture and control for test chambers and instrumentation — and support the desktop field-client application used to interface with equipment on site.
- Troubleshoot bugs, data issues, and integration problems across the platform, reasoning through complex workflows end to end.
- Design and maintain schema changes, queries, and stored procedures against SQL Server, following the platform's data and audit conventions.
- Produce clear technical documentation and follow code review and deployment discipline appropriate to a small, remote team.
- Collaborate with HQ engineering to prioritize work, clarify requirements, and drive continuous improvement of the platform.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field (a strong programming and CS foundation is required).
- 2–5+ years of experience building and maintaining web applications or line-of-business software systems.
Core Competency – AI-Assisted / Agentic Programming
- Demonstrated proficiency using AI coding agents (e.g., Claude Code or similar) as a day-to-day development tool.
- Ability to critically review AI-generated code — assessing correctness, security, structure, and maintainability — and to debug and take ownership of it.
- Solid grasp of software fundamentals (data structures, control flow, APIs, testing) sufficient to direct an agent well and to work effectively when the agent is wrong.
Technical Skills
- C# and ASP.NET Core / .NET — primary application framework.
- SQL Server (T-SQL), including complex queries, full CRUD operations, and schema design.
- Vanilla JavaScript, HTML, and CSS for front-end work (the platform uses a lightweight, no-build-toolchain approach — no heavy SPA framework required).
- Building and consuming REST APIs and vendor/system interfaces (SDKs, HTTP integrations).
- Python for specialized services, automation scripts, and interfacing with test and measurement equipment (e.g., test chambers, instrumentation, and data acquisition).
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and system-level problem-solving skills.
Professional Skills
- Ability to work independently with high ownership as an early or sole contributor, scaling into a small team as it grows.
- Strong written and verbal communication for effective remote, cross-functional collaboration with HQ (including time-zone overlap and async work).
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Experience with IIS deployment and Windows server environments.
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 integration (Graph API, SharePoint, Teams, Power Automate).
- Domain familiarity of engineering or manufacturing workflows — helpful for understanding the platforms' users and the problems they solve (e.g., ECO/document control, ERP concepts, inspection or quality processes).
- Experience building desktop applications (e.g., Electron or similar) for field/on-site use.
- Exposure to test and measurement or industrial automation — instrument protocols, data acquisition, or interfacing with lab/factory equipment.
- Exposure to integrating with ERP systems (e.g., Epicor) or other enterprise systems of record.
- Experience with document/drawing management and configuration/change management concepts.
What You'll Work On
- Feature development and maintenance across internal platform modules (project/task management, document control, ERP integration, inspection, asset/maintenance, and more).
- Database and API work connecting internal platforms to internal and external systems.
- Automation and tooling for test and measurement systems, plus the desktop field client used with equipment on site.
- AI-assisted development workflows that let a small team deliver at a larger team's pace.
- Internal tools and dashboards supporting engineering across the organization.
