Position Summary
We are looking for a visionary Principal Software Engineer specializing in Backend Development to lead the design and evolution of our enterprise data serving layer. In this role, you will build and maintain highly scalable APIs and backend services that enable real-time data access across enterprise systems.
Your core focus will be on microservices architecture, GraphQL supergraphs (Apollo Federation), and cloud-native deployments. If you thrive on solving complex backend scaling challenges and love driving architectural best practices, we want you on our team.
Key Responsibilities
- API Architecture: Design, develop, and maintain high-performance, low-latency REST and GraphQL APIs.
- GraphQL Federation: Build and manage GraphQL supergraphs, including end-to-end schema design, federation strategies, and optimized resolvers.
- Microservices Development: Develop and optimize backend microservices for distributed data access and aggregation.
- Data Integration: Seamlessly integrate diverse data sources including relational databases, NoSQL data stores, data lakes, and external enterprise APIs.
- System Optimization: Ensure all backend services are resilient, scalable, securely monitored, and tuned for performance.
- Collaboration & Leadership: Partner with Data Engineering, AI/ML, Frontend, and DevOps teams to deliver cohesive platform features. Lead code reviews and champion modern CI/CD workflows.
Required Skills & Qualifications ("Must Haves")
- Core Experience: 8–12 years of hands-on experience in production-grade backend or platform engineering.
- Backend Stack: Strong expertise in Node.js along with deep proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript. (Familiarity with Java/Spring Boot or Python/FastAPI is a strong plus).
- GraphQL Expertise: Solid, practical experience with GraphQL, Apollo Federation, and supergraph concepts.
- Cloud & DevOps: Hands-on experience with the Azure platform, including containerized deployments using Docker and AKS (Azure Kubernetes Service).
- CI/CD & Tools: Experience managing automated deployment pipelines using GitHub or Azure DevOps.
- Data Layer: Competency in working with SQL and NoSQL databases (experience with Cosmos DB or Databricks is highly preferred).
Nice to Have Skills ("Good to Haves")
- Additional experience or exposure to Frontend architectures (e.g., React.js).
- Knowledge of event-driven messaging systems like Apache Kafka or Azure Pub/Sub.
- Familiarity with Graph Databases (e.g., Neo4j).
- Exposure to AI/ML serving architectures, model APIs, or agentic AI service layers.
Soft Skills
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and an analytical mindset.
- Clear, concise communication skills for collaborating across multi-functional engineering teams.
- A proactive, ownership-driven approach to technical challenges with experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
