Finance Transformation

As a Senior Consultant in the Finance Operate practice, you will take a leading role in ensuring accurate and compliant revenue recognition under US GAAP, while overseeing broader Record-to-Report (RTR) operations as required. This position works closely with client operations leaders, cross-functional teams and internal stakeholders to manage revenue documentation, financial close activities and service delivery, ensuring integrity of financial records and adherence to relevant policies and standards.
This role sits within Deloitte's Finance Transformation – Finance Operate team, which provides operate-related support to clients across industries. The primary focus of this position is Revenue Recognition, where the Senior Consultant will be responsible for leading the review and governance of complex contracts and revenue transactions to ensure proper recording under US GAAP. Where required, the role will also provide senior oversight across RTR workstreams, managing teams and client relationships in line with contractual SLAs and business needs.
Revenue Recognition (Primary Focus):
- Lead the review and interpretation of a significant volume of legal contracts, supporting documents and correspondence to verify that documentation adequately supports revenue recognition under US GAAP, including transactions of varying complexity.
- Oversee the analysis of individual revenue transactions to ensure revenue is properly documented and recorded in accordance with company policy and US GAAP standards (ASC 606).
- Establish and maintain adherence to internal accounting policies, processes and procedures relating to revenue recognition; act as a senior point of guidance for the team.
- Identify, analyse and resolve complex revenue recognition issues and/or conflicts; recommend and implement corrective action to minimise risk and ensure compliance.
- Govern documentation frameworks to support internal and external audit requirements; manage audit queries related to revenue transactions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal clients and senior stakeholders; manage routine and non-routine queries, providing timely, high-quality responses.
- Provide an 'Operate-to-Transform' lens on revenue recognition processes — identify opportunities for automation, standardisation and efficiency improvements.
Record-to-Report (RTR – Additional Scope as Required):
- Demonstrate in-depth understanding of accounting principles, rules, policies and procedures to ensure appropriate accounting and reporting across RTR workstreams.
- Review the end-to-end R2R process, including general ledger accounting, period-end close, monthly and quarterly reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, financial consolidation, statutory and management reporting, tax accounting and audit support, ensuring compliance with US GAAP.
- Own end-to-end service delivery for one or more finance process towers within R2R across
- Drive operational efficiencies in the financial close and reporting process through sustainable, technology-enabled solutions; identify and implement automation and process improvement opportunities.
- Manage client relationships at Operations Leader level: run weekly governance calls and quarterly business reviews (QBRs), handle audit queries and partner with BD teams on change orders or new-scope proposals.
- Design 'to-be' processes, target operating models and digital solution architectures; oversee delivery through internal CoEs and third-party vendors.
- Lead, coach and develop high-performing teams of 15–20 FTEs: workforce planning, goal setting, performance reviews, succession and capability development.
- ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified (or equivalent such as CA/CMA/CWA).
- 5+ years of post-qualification experience, with demonstrable expertise in Revenue Recognition under US GAAP (ASC 606); experience in RTR/finance operations is an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP, particularly revenue recognition standards; knowledge of the real estate services industry and terminology preferred.
- Able to read, analyse and interpret financial reports, complex legal contracts and business documents.
- Experience working in a high-volume transaction environment with a results-driven mindset.
- Shared Services Centre (SSC) / BPO experience.
- Controls and compliance knowledge across R2R; SOX/IFC/GDPR-ready.
- Client operations leadership: ability to run governance forums, QBRs and manage senior stakeholder relationships.
- Team leadership: experience leading and developing teams of 15–30 colleagues across multiple geographies.
- Excellent written and oral English communication skills; strong facilitation, presentation and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Strong IT skills including Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, formulas etc.); Oracle PeopleSoft knowledge advantageous.
- ERP/Finance tools exposure: Oracle, SAP, Blackline, Infor, Coupa, Cognos, Acadia 6.5 or similar.
- Operate-to-Transform / due diligence experience: future-state solutioning, capacity and cost modelling, benefit case creation.
- PMO / project management experience (1–2 years preferred).
- Big 4 / BPO transition experience; experience leading transitions from external vendors.
- Automation and digital capabilities: RPA, GenAI, predictive analytics; process automation identification and implementation.
- Oracle / SAP certifications or automation tool certifications.
- Qualified CA / CMA / ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent.
- Position is based in Hyderabad or Chennai.
- Ability to work flexibly and extend hours as per business requirements.
