Role Overview
We are looking for a GIS Business Analyst with 3+ years of experience in Geo-informatics or GIS-based systems to support the design and implementation of geospatial software platforms.
The role involves understanding client requirements, translating business needs into functional specifications, preparing technical documentation, and coordinating between clients and development teams.
You will work closely with GIS developers, backend engineers, project managers, and domain experts to ensure that geospatial solutions align with business requirements and are delivered efficiently.
Strong analytical thinking, communication skills, and documentation expertise are essential for this role.
Key Responsibilities
Business Analysis
- Interact with clients and stakeholders to understand business needs and operational workflows related to GIS applications
- Conduct requirement gathering sessions, stakeholder meetings, and workshops
- Analyze existing processes and convert business requirements into clear functional requirements
- Identify project scope, use cases, and system workflows
Documentation
- Prepare and maintain project documentation including:
- FRS (Functional Requirement Specification)
- SRS (Software Requirement Specification)
- BRD (Business Requirement Document)
- Use Cases and Workflow Diagrams
- User Manuals and Process Documentation
- Maintain requirement traceability and documentation updates throughout the project lifecycle
Client & Team Coordination
- Act as a bridge between clients, GIS developers, and engineering teams
- Facilitate requirement validation and obtain stakeholder approvals
- Provide functional clarification to development teams during implementation
- Support project managers in tracking project progress and deliverables
Solution Support
- Work with GIS and engineering teams to translate requirements into system workflows and GIS-based solutions
- Assist in defining data structures, geospatial workflows, dashboards, and mapping applications
- Support solution design discussions and product planning
Demonstration & Presentation
- Conduct solution demonstrations and presentations for clients and stakeholders
- Prepare project presentations, proposal materials, and system walkthroughs
- Assist in preparing proof-of-concept (POC) demonstrations
Testing & Implementation Support
- Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) by validating implemented features against requirements
- Identify gaps and coordinate with development teams for issue resolution
- Assist in user training and documentation for deployed solutions
Required Skills
- 3+ years of experience in GIS, Geo-informatics, or Spatial Data Systems
- Strong understanding of GIS concepts and geospatial data
- Experience in requirements gathering and business analysis
- Experience preparing SRS, FRS, BRD, and functional documentation
- Familiarity with Open-Source Software or ESRI technology
- Understanding of spatial data formats, geodatabases, and mapping systems
- Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills
Preferred Skills
- Experience working on GIS projects in urban planning, utilities, forestry, agriculture, or environmental monitoring
- Familiarity with web GIS applications and spatial databases
- Understanding of Agile or Waterfall software development methodologies
- Basic knowledge of spatial data visualization and dashboards
