Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Process Engineer to bridge the gap between manufacturing engineering and strategic sourcing - Efficient manufacturing processes for mechanical components, plan production workflows, and directly manage technical vendor selection and cost negotiations. The ideal candidate should possesses deep expertise in mechanical raw materials (castings, forgings, machined parts) and knows how to optimize both workshop cycle times and supply chain costs.
Key Responsibilities
1. Process Planning & Production Engineering
- Develop step-by-step manufacturing routing, operation sheets, and process plans for mechanical raw materials and components.
- Interpret complex engineering drawings, apply GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), and establish optimal machining sequences.
- Design or specify required tooling, jigs, fixtures, and CNC/VMC cutting parameters to maximize production efficiency.
- Establish Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and line-balancing metrics to minimize cycle times and eliminate bottlenecks.
2. Technical Vendor Selection & Sourcing
- Evaluate, audit, and technically qualify potential vendors and sub-contractors for raw materials and specialized machining services.
- Review vendor manufacturing capabilities, quality systems, and machine capacities to ensure alignment with company standards.
- Collaborate with suppliers during the prototyping phase to resolve manufacturing feasibility issues (DFM/DFA).
3. Cost Estimation & Negotiation
- Develop robust "should-cost" models based on raw material weights, current market metal prices, machining cycle times, and labor overheads.
- Analyze vendor quotes, identify cost-reduction opportunities, and lead technical cost negotiations to achieve target margins.
4. Quality & Material Optimization
- Monitor raw material utilization rates and implement scrap-reduction initiatives.
- Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and implement CAPA for component defects arising from either in-house production or external vendor supply.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Diploma / Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Production Engineering.
- Experience: 2 to 5 years of hands-on experience in process planning and vendor development within a manufacturing environment
- Technical Skills:
- Expertise in processing mechanical raw materials.
- Strong understanding of machining operations (Turning, Milling, Grinding, CNC programming parameters).
- Experience in cost estimation, raw material pricing, and commercial negotiation with engineering vendors.
- Soft Skills: Strong negotiation, analytical problem-solving, and cross-functional communication skills.
