Role description
Lead Linux/Unix Systems Engineer (Offshore)
Experience Required
- 6 to 8 years of progressive experience in Linux/Unix engineering within production, multi-data-center, 24x7 enterprise environments.
- Strong hands-on expertise in enterprise server administration, automation, troubleshooting, and infrastructure support.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the administration, maintenance, and support of Linux/Unix environments across production infrastructure.
- Manage and support IBM AIX (Power 7 and above) systems for routine operational activities.
- Administer and troubleshoot Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) versions 7, 8, and 9, including:
- systemd
- NetworkManager (nmcli)
- Bonding/teaming
- LVM
- Multipath
- NFS
- autofs
- Kickstart
- DNF/YUM
- SELinux troubleshooting
- Manage Ubuntu LTS server environments, including:
- APT
- Netplan
- AppArmor
- systemd
- Snap
- Operate and manage Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform (AAP), including:
- Playbook governance
- Role design
- Inventory management
- Credential management
- Manage endpoint patching and configuration enforcement using Tanium.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts using Bash and at least one scripting language such as Python, Korn shell, or Perl.
- Troubleshoot physical and virtual servers, server-attached storage, VMware-related server issues, and security remediation activities.
- Work extensively with enterprise ITSM platforms, preferably ServiceNow.
- Collaborate with global teams and stakeholders while ensuring strong communication and documentation standards.
Required Skills
- Expert-level administration of RHEL and Ubuntu server environments.
- Strong experience in Ansible playbook design, automation, role consolidation, and AAP operations.
- Expertise in Tanium-based patch management and configuration enforcement.
- Strong understanding of server security baselining, hardening, and remediation.
- Hands-on experience with server monitoring and observability tools.
- Strong virtualization fundamentals, including VMware and basic awareness of PowerVM.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
Preferred Experience
- Experience working in healthcare or other regulated industries such as financial services, life sciences, or government sectors.
- Experience with enterprise storage platforms such as Hitachi and Pure Storage in server administration environments.
- Experience mentoring or leading peer engineers or direct reports.
- Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools such as:
- Splunk
- Dynatrace
- Nagios
- Zabbix
- SolarWinds
