We are currently hiring a Process Leader – Mortgage Accounting to support a leading U.S.-based mortgage and lending organization. This role offers strong exposure to mortgage accounting, reconciliations, journal entries, financial operations, and team leadership within a global financial services environment.
As a Process Leader – Mortgage Accounting, you will lead a team responsible for critical mortgage accounting activities while ensuring accuracy, timely delivery, process compliance, and operational excellence. You will work closely with internal stakeholders and provide guidance to the team to ensure consistent and high-quality delivery.
- You will oversee day-to-day mortgage accounting activities, ensuring transactions are accurately recorded, reconciled, and completed within established timelines.
- You will prepare and review bank reconciliations, investigate discrepancies, and ensure reconciling items are appropriately resolved and documented.
- You will oversee the accurate posting of incoming and outgoing remittance wires, ensuring transactions are processed in accordance with established accounting and operational controls.
- You will oversee the recording and reconciliation of mortgage repurchase activity, ensuring transactions are accurately reflected in the appropriate accounts.
- You will review and oversee the posting of BLN entries, interest float entries, credit card activity, and intra-account transfers as part of the mortgage accounting process.
- You will review and approve accounting entries and supporting documentation to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with established procedures.
- You will work with relevant stakeholders to investigate accounting discrepancies, resolve exceptions, and ensure timely closure of outstanding items.
- You will lead and manage the mortgage accounting team, providing day-to-day direction, guidance, and support to ensure consistent operational performance.
- You will allocate workloads effectively, monitor team deliverables, and ensure critical accounting activities are completed within agreed timelines.
- You will review team performance, provide regular feedback, and identify coaching and development opportunities to strengthen individual and team capabilities.
- You will support new team members through process training, knowledge transfer, and structured onboarding to ensure they achieve required productivity and quality standards.
- You will manage escalations and complex accounting issues, providing appropriate guidance to team members and involving senior stakeholders when required.
- You will foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, accuracy, and continuous improvement within the team.
- You will ensure mortgage accounting activities are performed in accordance with internal policies, accounting principles, client procedures, and established financial controls.
- You will monitor operational metrics related to productivity, quality, accuracy, and turnaround time, identifying gaps and implementing corrective actions where required.
- You will maintain appropriate documentation and support audit and review requirements related to mortgage accounting activities.
- You will identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes, strengthen controls, and improve operational efficiency.
- You will collaborate with finance, operations, and client stakeholders to ensure smooth execution of mortgage accounting activities and timely resolution of business issues.
- 5–8 years of overall experience in accounting, finance, banking, mortgage operations, or financial services.
- Strong hands-on experience in Mortgage Accounting is mandatory.
- Prior experience leading a team is mandatory, preferably in a mortgage, banking, lending, or financial services environment.
- Experience managing accounting processes involving bank reconciliations, journal entries, transaction posting, and account reconciliation.
- Experience working with a bank, mortgage lender, mortgage servicer, or financial institution is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial controls, reconciliations, and transaction processing.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including working with financial data, reconciliations, and reporting.
- Experience with NetSuite or other ERP/accounting systems is preferred but not mandatory.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- You have strong hands-on experience in Mortgage Accounting and understand the accounting requirements associated with mortgage and lending operations.
- You have demonstrated experience leading, mentoring, and managing a team in a production-oriented finance or accounting environment.
- You are highly detail-oriented and understand the importance of accuracy, controls, and timely reconciliation in financial operations.
- You are a self-starter who can work independently, proactively follow up on outstanding items, and take ownership without requiring constant supervision.
- You possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills and can effectively investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies.
- You communicate confidently with internal stakeholders and can provide clear direction to team members.
- You are comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while maintaining strong quality standards.
