Job Description – Shipyard Fitter/ Welder
Position: Shipyard Fitter/ Welder

Reports To: Foreman / Supervisor / Yard Manager
Job Summary
The Shipyard Fitter Welder is responsible for the fabrication, fitting, alignment, assembly, and welding of structural steel components used in shipbuilding, ship repair, and marine construction projects. The role involves interpreting technical drawings, preparing materials, assembling hull structures, and performing welding activities in accordance with shipyard quality, safety, and production standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret shipbuilding drawings, blueprints, and fabrication sketches.
- Mark, measure, cut, grind, and prepare steel plates, sections, and structural components for assembly.
- Fit and align hull structures, bulkheads, decks, frames, stiffeners, brackets, and other ship components according to specifications.
- Perform tack welding and complete welding operations using approved welding procedures.
- Assemble and install structural steel components during ship construction and repair activities.
- Ensure proper alignment, dimensions, and tolerances of fabricated and assembled structures.
- Operate fabrication and welding equipment safely and efficiently.
- Conduct visual inspections of welds and fabricated structures to ensure quality standards are met.
- Repair welding defects and carry out rework activities as required.
- Coordinate with supervisors, inspectors, and other trades to ensure smooth project execution.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and orderly condition.
- Follow shipyard safety regulations, permit-to-work systems, and company procedures.
- Support vessel construction, modification, maintenance, and repair projects as assigned.
- Adhere to project schedules and productivity targets while maintaining quality workmanship.
Qualifications & Experience
- High School / ITI / Technical Trade Certification in Welding, Fabrication, or a related trade.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, offshore fabrication, or heavy steel structure projects.
- Ability to read and interpret shipbuilding and fabrication drawings.
- Knowledge of welding processes such as SMAW, FCAW, GMAW (MIG), or other relevant welding methods.
- Familiarity with shipyard fabrication standards and marine construction practices.

Working Conditions
- Work may be performed in shipyards, dry docks, fabrication shops, onboard vessels, and outdoor marine environments.
- Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions as required by project needs.
Pay: Up to ₹1,200.00 per day
