Technical & Engineering
- Setting out: Using surveying equipment (like total stations and GPS) to mark out exact locations, levels, and dimensions for the structure.
- Reading plans: Reviewing architectural and structural drawings to ensure construction aligns with precise engineering specifications.
- Resolving issues: Diagnosing technical difficulties and site problems, and providing immediate, practical engineering solutions.
Supervision & Management
- Monitoring progress: Supervising construction activities to guarantee that all work follows established project timelines and milestones.
- Resource allocation: Coordinating manpower, machinery, and materials to maximize productivity and minimize waste.
- Daily operations: Managing subcontractors, craftspeople, and laborers to ensure their respective packages of work are completed.
Quality & Safety
- Quality control (QC): Inspecting completed work, testing construction materials (e.g., concrete slump tests), and enforcing strict adherence to industry standards. [1, 2]
- Safety enforcement: Conducting safety audits and ensuring all workers comply with Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) regulations, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Administration & Coordination
- Documentation: Maintaining accurate site logs, compiling daily progress reports, and recording "as-built" drawings.
- Procurement: Ordering and organizing construction materials, tracking inventory, and negotiating with vendors.
- Liaison: Acting as the main point of contact for architects, consultants, clients, project managers, and contractors to prevent schedule conflicts.
