About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and passionate Head of English / Senior English Faculty to lead the English Department of a reputed residential boarding school in Mussoorie.
The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in English Language and Literature, excellent classroom and academic leadership skills, and preferably experience with Cambridge/IGCSE and/or A-Level curriculum.
The role requires an educator who can combine strong academic knowledge with effective department leadership, curriculum planning, mentoring of teachers, and development of students' communication, critical thinking, writing, and analytical skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the English Department and ensure high academic standards.
- Teach English Language and/or English Literature to senior school students.
- Develop and implement curriculum, lesson plans, assessments, and academic resources.
- Preferably handle Cambridge IGCSE / AS & A Level English curriculum.
- Mentor, guide, and evaluate English faculty members.
- Monitor student academic progress and implement improvement plans.
- Prepare students for board examinations and ensure strong examination outcomes.
- Develop students' reading, writing, speaking, presentation, and critical-thinking skills.
- Conduct regular assessments, moderation, and academic reviews.
- Coordinate departmental meetings, academic planning, and teacher development initiatives.
- Encourage innovative and engaging teaching methodologies.
- Support extracurricular activities such as debating, public speaking, creative writing, literary clubs, drama, and school publications.
- Maintain effective communication with students, parents, school leadership, and other departments.
- Contribute to the overall academic and pastoral environment of the boarding school.
- Participate in school events, residential duties, and other responsibilities as required.
Required Qualifications
- Master's Degree in English / English Literature or a relevant discipline.
- B.Ed. or equivalent teaching qualification preferred/required as per school norms.
- 8–15+ years of relevant teaching experience.
- Experience in a senior academic/leadership role such as HOD English, Head of English, English Coordinator, or Senior English Faculty.
- Strong experience teaching senior school students.
- Excellent written and spoken English communication.
- Strong classroom management and leadership skills.
