Senior Architect is a leadership role responsible for overseeing complex design projects, managing project teams, and ensuring that all architectural designs meet high standards of quality, safety, functionality, and regulatory compliance from conception through construction. They act as a technical expert and mentor within the firm and a primary liaison with clients and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Leadership & Management: Lead and manage large-scale architectural projects from initial design concept to completion, including developing scopes, schedules, and budgets.
- Design & Documentation: Oversee the development of detailed architectural drawings, blueprints, specifications, and construction documents using advanced software like AutoCAD.
- Quality Control & Compliance: Ensure all designs and construction comply with local and federal building codes, zoning laws, safety standards, and quality assurance processes.
- Team Guidance & Mentorship: Guide, mentor, and review the work of junior architects, interns, and other team members, fostering a collaborative and high-quality work environment.
- Client & Stakeholder Relations: Interface directly with clients, present design proposals, manage expectations, and coordinate with external consultants, engineers (structural, mechanical, electrical, civil), and contractors.
- Site Supervision: Conduct regular site visits and inspections to monitor construction progress, resolve on-site issues, and ensure the build aligns with design specifications.
- Business Development Support: Assist with the preparation of proposals for new work, contribute to bids, and help nurture positive client relationships to encourage repeat business.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Education: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture from an accredited institution.
- Licensure: Mandatory licensure as a registered architect in the relevant state or region
- Experience: Typically requires a minimum of 5-10 years of related experience in an architect's office, with a proven track record of managing complex projects and demonstrated leadership ability.
- Technical Skills: Expert proficiency in architectural design software and Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite).
- Soft Skills: Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, project management, and organizational abilities are essential for coordinating multidisciplinary teams and managing client expectations.
