Key Job Responsibilities
- Boiler Operation & Monitoring
- Start, operate, and shut down steam boilers used in the feed mill.
- Monitor gauges, meters, and control systems to ensure optimal pressure, temperature, and water levels.
- Adjust valves, fuel supply, and other settings to maintain efficient boiler performance.
- Steam Supply Management
- Ensure a consistent and adequate supply of steam to the pellet mill for proper feed conditioning.
- Coordinate with pellet operators to meet steam demand during production.
- Routine Maintenance
- Perform regular inspections, cleaning, and preventive maintenance on boilers, pumps, and related systems.
- Replace or repair faulty components such as valves, gaskets, and pressure controls.
- Maintain water treatment systems to prevent scale buildup and corrosion.
- Safety Compliance
- Adhere to boiler safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Monitor for abnormal conditions (e.g., pressure surges, leaks) and respond appropriately.
- Ensure compliance with local and national boiler safety regulations.
- Record Keeping
- Log operational data such as steam pressure, fuel consumption, and water levels.
- Maintain maintenance records and report any malfunctions or irregularities to supervisors.
- Coordination with Other Departments
- Work closely with production, maintenance, and quality assurance teams to ensure smooth operations.
- Communicate boiler issues that may impact feed production timelines.
Skills and Qualifications
- Certification or license as a Boiler Operator (required in many regions).
- Knowledge of steam systems, water treatment, and boiler controls.
- Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Basic understanding of feed mill operations is a plus.
- Attention to detail and strong safety awareness.
Work Environment
- Industrial setting with exposure to heat, noise, and steam.
- Shift work may be required, including nights and weekends.
- Must wear appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
