Job Context: Birla Carbon, Gummidipoondi unit was commissioned in 1998 and since then has been progressively expanded to 5 production lines, to reach its current annual production capacity of approximately 2,25,000 MT of carbon black. It is the largest carbon black manufacturing unit in India, and amongst the top 3 largest manufacturing units for Birla Carbon globally. In addition to carbon black, the unit has power generation (co-product of carbon black manufacturing) capacity of 60.7 MW and also rubber master batch (downstream product for carbon black) capacity of approximately 15,000 MT per annum. Birla Carbon, Gummidipoondi has implemented a management system which meets all requirements of various standards including IATF 16949: 2016, ISO 14001:2004, OHSAS 18001:2007 to manage Quality, Environment, Occupational Health & Safety. Power generation and export is a major value driver. The unit has 60.7 MW power generation capacity, part of which is used to meet the requirements of unit and the balance is exported to the network. This role is accountable for the execution Lab activity including testing
, calibration of Lab equipment for supporting Production for uninterrupted producing on-spec carbon black and to ensure timely allocation of Carbon Black for uninterrupted dispatch activity. Job Challenges : Reduction of Customer Complaint and issues. Improve the Vendor rating for all Tyre customer and sustain preferred supplier status. Improvement of Testing accuracy and improve International Lab proficiency rating conducted by ASTM. On-time accurate test, reporting and allocation of material to improve dispatch efficiency. Upkeep the testing standards in the Laboratory as per international standards. Continuation of NABL accreditation by Documentation and auditing of lab activity.
Testing of CBFS, Oil and Water
Conduct comprehensive quality testing of CBFS Oil, Water, and Carbon Black in accordance with plant norms. This includes performing routine analyses to ensure compliance with established standards and identifying any deviations. Utilize advanced testing equipment and methodologies to obtain accurate results. Document and report findings meticulously, ensuring all records are up-to-date and accessible. Collaborate with other departments to address any quality issues promptly. Continuously monitor and improve testing procedures to enhance overall quality control within the plant.
Lab work Equipment calibration and record
Perform lab work including equipment calibration and record-keeping, ensuring no deviations from the schedule. Meet all requirements and utilize KSS to avoid failures. Additionally, focus on reducing maintenance costs while maintaining operational performance
Quality Checking of Carbon Black Samples (In-process).
Monitoring the quality checking of In-process product and prompt information to Control room & WH.
Material Allocation & Dispatch Activity.
Ensure the availability of Tested Material for dispatching. To ensure the allocation of quality material as per Customer Spec and Contract review. To monitor the timely allocation and release loading ship for loading of material and release COA for On-time delivery.
Monitoring the Upkeep of Lab and ensure it is up to mark by the auditors. Monitor & maintain the laboratory working environment as per testing accuracy requirement. Ensuring 5S/ Quality Circle activity in Laboratory.
Safety: Implement Global Safety Standard and its procedure & legal compliance to create safe working condition.
Documentation to fulfil compliance of Global safety standard - Hazard Communication Compliance of OHS
:18001 standard requirement Ensuring 100% use of Personal protective equipment for safe working inside lab Imparting of on job safety training. Task observation of workmen during critical job for assurance of safe working.
Training and Development: Participate in teams through various initiatives to raise competency level & Talent development
Participation in Quality Circle, KSS, 5S & WCM activities and shop floor. Meeting. Providing training platform for Chemists & Imparting training on various Testing & Calibration Activities. Clarify work procedure on shop
floor.
