Role Purpose
We are looking for an experienced and employee-focused Senior HR Manager to lead the HR function of an international school in Kolkata.
The role will work closely with the Principal, Board, and Senior Leadership Team to provide strategic and operational HR leadership while ensuring effective employee relations, statutory compliance, HR governance, and consistent implementation of people processes.
The successful candidate will bring strong professional judgement, discretion, stakeholder-management skills, and the ability to balance organisational requirements with employee needs.
Key Responsibilities1. HR Leadership & Governance
- Lead and strengthen the overall HR function, policies, processes, and systems.
- Ensure HR policies and procedures are consistently implemented across the organisation.
- Establish appropriate HR governance, controls, reporting mechanisms, and documentation.
- Provide timely HR insights and recommendations to senior leadership.
2. Senior Stakeholder Management
- Act as a trusted HR advisor to the Principal and Senior Leadership Team.
- Support leadership in making informed decisions on people, organisation, and employee matters.
- Prepare clear HR reports, dashboards, and management papers for senior stakeholders.
- Handle sensitive and confidential matters with sound judgement and discretion.
3. Employee Relations & Workplace Culture
- Manage employee relations matters fairly, consistently, and confidentially.
- Support resolution of workplace concerns, grievances, conflicts, and disciplinary matters.
- Build constructive relationships with faculty, administrative, and support teams.
- Promote a positive, respectful, and employee-centric workplace culture.
4. HR Compliance & Statutory Governance
- Ensure compliance with applicable employment and labour laws and statutory requirements.
- Maintain appropriate HR records, policies, documentation, and compliance processes.
- Monitor regulatory developments and recommend changes where required.
- Identify and manage HR-related risks in coordination with senior management.
5. Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning
- Lead end-to-end recruitment for teaching, administrative, and support positions.
- Partner with leadership on manpower planning and workforce requirements.
- Strengthen recruitment processes, candidate experience, onboarding, and induction.
6. Performance & Capability Development
- Drive effective performance-management processes.
- Support managers in goal setting, performance discussions, feedback, and development planning.
- Identify capability-building requirements and coordinate relevant learning initiatives.
7. Employee Engagement & Experience
- Develop initiatives that strengthen employee engagement, communication, and workplace experience.
- Monitor employee feedback and recommend practical improvements.
- Support initiatives related to organisational culture, wellbeing, recognition, and retention.
8. HR Operations & Employee Lifecycle
- Oversee key HR operations including onboarding, transfers, promotions, leave, separation, documentation, and employee records.
- Partner with relevant stakeholders on compensation and benefits administration.
- Ensure HR processes are efficient, accurate, consistent, and well documented.
- Use HR data and reporting to support decision-making.
Candidate ProfileEducation
- Postgraduate qualification or MBA in Human Resources, Personnel Management, or a related discipline.
Experience
- 10–15 years of progressive HR experience with meaningful exposure to end-to-end HR management.
- Demonstrated experience in employee relations, HR operations, compliance, talent management, and senior stakeholder engagement.
- Experience in education is desirable. Candidates from other people-intensive and process-driven sectors may also be considered.
