Role Description:
We are looking for an Engineering Manager to join our team and help us to move the Customer Service Tech at Booking to the next level. Your role is to enable your team and help each team member to achieve their goals. You get things done via influence, not authority. You unlock the creativity of your team and inspire them to build the best for our customers. You take full responsibility for your area.
As an Engineering Manager, you are responsible for one or two engineering teams and the technology (Pega and Backend) that the teams own. You will not only work as a coach for your team members but also as a technical leader, ensuring that the right technical decisions are made when building our product.
We expect you to have the energy and passion to deliver solutions using a whole range of PEGA centric technologies and have a solid understanding of engineering principles.
You will collaborate with colleagues in Amsterdam to achieve results the right way. This will include other Engineering Managers , Product Managers , Operations and Service Excellence teams.
Manage 1 or more teams of software, data & reliability engineers - between 5 and 10 people in total
Create a culture of ownership and technical excellence, leading by example
Empower engineers to develop their careers by providing ad-hoc applicable coaching
Help building and enriching an inclusive work environment comprised of people from diverse backgrounds
Contribute to projects by guiding architectural discussions, providing technical coaching to software engineers and occasionally getting hands-on with coding
Champion engineering and operational excellence, establishing metrics and processes to both supervise health and allow continuous improvement
Provide technical guidance to both your team members and your project peers
Drive team efforts to establish bottom-up projects and roadmaps supporting our vision
Collaborate closely with the team in Amsterdam to drive the delivery of common goals
Drive initiatives to reduce operational workload, introduce monitoring at scale, and improve debugging, testing, validation, and data quality for production-ready data products.
Oversee infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and cost optimization for data products, while ensuring our success metrics are consistently delivered.
Works in conjunction with Senior Engineering Manager to size, manage scope and risk
Collaborate with your Product counterpart to design and deliver solutions with customer centric outcomes
Ownership of the quality of the solutions your team produce
Embed Agile ways of working and values within your team
Contribute to the evolution of best practices across the department
At least 3+ years of experience leading and managing a team of engineers in a fast-paced and complex environment
6+ years of experience in Pega
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field or 5 years of progressively responsible experience in the specialty as equivalent
A deep understanding of software development in a team, and a track record of developing and shipping software
Familiarity with agile best practices for the full software development life cycle such as Pega coding standards, code reviews, deployment and version control.
Solid understanding of cloud technologies and how they can be leveraged to solve problems at scale
Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and cooperate with people at all levels
Experience in working on products with a large customer base and company wide impact
Strong Coding & System design skills with ability to get hands-on with your team if needed
You are a humble and thoughtful technology leader, you lead by example and gain your teammates’ respect through actions, not the title
Experience working with teams located in different timezones is a plus
Preferred
PEGA Certified Lead Systems Architect
Experience in architecting and designing Pega based CRM solutions for large programmes
Experience of building robust and resilient PEGA systems
