Role summary
We are seeking an energetic, experienced Dance Teacher to develop and deliver a diverse dance curriculum across classical, contemporary, folk, and hip-hop styles. The ideal candidate will inspire students from primary to higher levels, build technical skills and stage confidence, and contribute to school events, competitions, and cultural programs.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and deliver age-appropriate dance lessons in classical (e.g., Bharatanatyam/Kathak/Odissi), contemporary, folk (regional Indian forms), and hip-hop.
- Create progressive lesson plans that balance technique, expression, choreography, improvisation, and performance skills.
- Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback; maintain records of lesson plans, attendance, and assessment reports.
- Prepare students for inter-school competitions, annual day performances, and cultural festivals.
- Choreograph routines for individual, group, and large-scale performances, ensuring safety and inclusivity.
- Adapt teaching methods for different age groups and learning needs; differentiate instruction for mixed-ability classes.
- Promote physical fitness, posture, injury prevention, and body-awareness in dance practice.
- Collaborate with music, drama, and physical education staff for cross-curricular projects and events.
- Maintain a safe, well-organized studio space and manage equipment, costumes, and props responsibly.
- Communicate with parents/guardians about student progress and performance schedules; attend staff meetings and professional development.
- Uphold school policies, child protection, and safeguarding standards at all times.
Qualifications and experience
- Diploma or degree in Dance, Performing Arts, or a related field; formal training/certification in at least one classical form and in contemporary/hip-hop preferred.
- Minimum 2–5 years teaching experience in a school or dance academy; experience working with children/adolescents preferred.
- Strong performance and choreography portfolio with videos or references.
- Knowledge of Indian folk dance traditions and contemporary urban styles.
- First-aid certification and knowledge of injury prevention (preferred).
- Familiarity with music accompaniment, stage lighting basics, and costume management is an advantage.
