An Automotive Service Manager oversees the daily operations of a repair or dealership service department. They maximize profitability, drive technician productivity, handle customer escalations, and enforce safety and manufacturer guidelines. Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Recruit, train, and supervise service advisors, technicians, and support staff.
- Financial Management: Forecast department budgets, set pricing, monitor profit margins, and track expenses.
- Customer Satisfaction: Address escalated complaints, monitor the Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI), and ensure vehicles are fixed right the first time. [1, 2]
- Operational Efficiency: Coordinate workflow, manage spare parts inventory, and track key performance metrics (KPIs) like turnaround time (TAT) and labor efficiency.
- Compliance: Ensure the facility meets safety and environmental regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA) and aligns with OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) warranty standards.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: A diploma or degree in Mechanical or Automobile Engineering is often preferred.
- Experience: Typically requires 3 to 5+ years of experience in automotive service operations, including prior time as a Service Advisor or Lead Technician.
- Skills: Strong communication, conflict resolution, proficiency with dealer management systems (DMS), and a firm grasp of automotive mechanics and diagnostics
