Job Summary
The School Accountant is responsible for managing the school's financial records, fee collection, accounting transactions, statutory compliance, payroll processing, budgeting, and financial reporting. The role ensures accurate financial management and compliance with applicable laws and school policies.
Key ResponsibilitiesAccounting & Bookkeeping
- Maintain day-to-day accounting records in accounting software (Tally/ERP).
- Record receipts, payments, journal entries, and bank transactions.
- Reconcile bank accounts, cash books, and ledgers regularly.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
Fee Management
- Monitor student fee collections and outstanding dues.
- Maintain fee records and generate fee-related reports.
- Coordinate with administration for fee follow-up and reconciliation.
Payroll & Employee Payments
- Process salary payments and maintain payroll records.
- Calculate deductions such as PF, ESI, TDS, and other statutory requirements.
- Prepare salary slips and employee reimbursement statements.
Statutory Compliance
- Ensure timely filing of TDS, PF, ESI, and other applicable returns.
- Maintain records required for audits and regulatory compliance.
- Assist in internal and external audits.
Budgeting & Financial Planning
- Assist management in preparing annual budgets.
- Monitor expenses against approved budgets.
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations for cost control.
Vendor & Procurement Management
- Process vendor invoices and payments.
- Maintain vendor accounts and reconcile balances.
- Verify supporting documents before processing payments.
Reporting
- Prepare MIS reports for management.
- Generate financial statements, cash flow reports, and expenditure reports.
- Support management with financial data for decision-making.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Commerce (B.Com) or related field.
- 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in an educational institution.
- Proficiency in Tally ERP, MS Excel, and accounting software.
Skills Required
- Strong accounting and bookkeeping knowledge.
- Knowledge of taxation, payroll, and statutory compliance.
