Job Title: Electrician – Pump House Operator

Reports To: Maintenance Manager / Utility Manager / Engineering Head
Job Summary
The Electrician – Pump House Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining the electrical systems and equipment associated with the pump house and utility systems. The position will ensure uninterrupted operation of water supply, process water, firefighting systems, and other utility pumps while maintaining electrical safety, equipment reliability, and proper documentation.
Key Responsibilities
1. Pump House Operation
- Operate and monitor all pumps and associated equipment as per requirements.
- Ensure continuous and uninterrupted water supply to production and utility areas.
- Monitor pump pressure, flow, current, voltage, and operating conditions.
- Start and stop pumps as per operating procedures and plant requirements.
- Monitor water tanks, reservoirs, levels, and associated valves.
- Maintain proper operating conditions of centrifugal, booster, transfer, and other utility pumps.
2. Electrical Operation & Maintenance
- Inspect electrical panels, MCCs, starters, contactors, relays, and control systems.
- Check motor current, voltage, temperature, and abnormal noise/vibration.
- Identify electrical faults and coordinate corrective maintenance.
- Attend minor electrical breakdowns related to pumps and pump-house equipment.
- Ensure proper functioning of motors, cables, switches, control panels, and protection devices.
3. Preventive Maintenance
- Carry out routine inspection and preventive maintenance of pumps and electrical equipment.
- Maintain preventive maintenance checklists and equipment history.
- Identify potential electrical and mechanical problems before breakdowns occur.
- Coordinate with the maintenance team for major repair and maintenance activities.
4. Utility & Water System Monitoring
- Monitor the plant's water distribution system.
- Ensure adequate water availability for production, cleaning, utilities, and other plant requirements.
- Monitor raw water, process water, utility water, and other applicable water systems.
- Coordinate with the Utility/Maintenance team during water shortages or system failures.
5. Safety Compliance
- Follow electrical safety procedures and plant safety rules.
- Use appropriate PPE while performing electrical and pump-house activities.
- Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures before maintenance work.
- Ensure proper earthing of motors, panels, and electrical equipment.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, electrical hazards, and equipment abnormalities.
6. Housekeeping & 5S
- Maintain cleanliness and proper housekeeping inside the pump house.
- Ensure electrical panels and equipment are free from dust, water leakage, and unnecessary materials.
- Follow 5S practices in the pump house and utility area.
- Ensure tools and electrical equipment are stored properly.
7. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain pump operating logs and electrical parameter records.
- Record pump running hours, breakdowns, maintenance activities, and abnormalities.
- Maintain shift handover records.
- Report equipment breakdowns and operational issues to the supervisor/maintenance manager.
8. Coordination
- Coordinate with Production, Utility, Maintenance, Safety, and other departments.
- Support the maintenance team during breakdown and emergency situations.
- Coordinate with external technicians/contractors when required.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Good knowledge of industrial electrical systems.
- Knowledge of motors, pumps, MCC panels, starters, contactors, relays, and control panels.
- Basic understanding of electrical troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of pump operation and water distribution systems.
- Knowledge of electrical safety and LOTO procedures.
- Ability to read basic electrical drawings.
- Good observation and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and in shifts.
- Basic computer and maintenance reporting skills.
Educational Qualification
ITI – Electrician / Diploma – Electrical Engineering / Relevant Electrical Qualification
Candidates with equivalent technical qualifications and relevant industrial experience may also be considered.
Experience
Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in:
- Industrial electrical maintenance
- Pump house operation
- Utility operations
- Manufacturing plant maintenance
- Water treatment / water pumping systems
- Food manufacturing or FMCG industry preferred
Preferred Experience
- Experience in operating industrial pumps and motors.
- Experience with MCC and electrical control panels.
- Experience in food manufacturing / FMCG / process industries.
- Knowledge of fire pump operation will be an added advantage.
- Experience working in a 24×7 manufacturing plant will be preferred.
