Opportunity
As a Project Editor, you will:
Manage the end-to-end delivery of assigned publishing projects, ensuring they are completed on schedule, within budget, and to agreed quality standards.
Oversee the development and publication of academic content across print and digital formats.
Work closely with authors, editors, reviewers, and contributors to ensure timely submission of high-quality content and supporting materials.
Review content against project requirements, coordinate peer review activity where required, and ensure adherence to editorial standards.
Maintain accurate project information, metadata, schedules, and workflow records across relevant systems.
Partner with Production, Design, Marketing, Sales, and Content Operations teams to ensure successful publication and market readiness of products.
Monitor project costs, timelines, and risks, escalating issues and identifying solutions when necessary.
Support new product development initiatives and contribute to market research, content strategy, and publishing plans.
Represent OUP professionally at author meetings, conferences, and other stakeholder engagements when required.
Contribute to process improvements, knowledge sharing, and onboarding of new team members.
Impact
This role plays a critical part in ensuring the successful delivery of OUP's academic publishing programme. You will help bring trusted research and educational content to global audiences while maintaining the high editorial standards for which Oxford University Press is known. Your work will influence product quality, publishing efficiency, author relationships, and the overall success of the Academic division.
About You
Essential Criteria
Proven track record of managing multiple projects and delivering results against demanding schedules.
Experience working within publishing, content development, or a related academic environment.
Strong organizational, project management, and time management skills.
Ability to work independently, prioritize competing demands, and adapt to changing priorities.
Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to build productive relationships with authors, academics, and internal stakeholders.
Strong IT literacy and the ability to learn and work with publishing systems and technologies.
Desirable Criteria
Experience managing cross-format publishing projects involving both print and digital content.
Experience working with academic authors, researchers, and specialist contributors.
Understanding of scholarly publishing workflows and content development processes.
Experience supporting new product development or market research initiatives.
