Job Summary
The Assistant Professor – Psychology is responsible for delivering high-quality teaching, conducting research, mentoring students, and contributing to the academic and administrative activities of the department. The role involves fostering critical thinking, promoting ethical practices, and equipping students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills in various areas of psychology.
Key ResponsibilitiesTeaching & Learning
- Deliver undergraduate and/or postgraduate courses in Psychology.
- Develop lesson plans, course materials, presentations, and learning resources.
- Conduct lectures, tutorials, practical sessions, and laboratory activities.
- Assess student performance through examinations, assignments, projects, presentations, and continuous evaluation.
- Mentor and guide students in academic, research, and career development.
Curriculum Development
- Develop, review, and update course curricula in line with UGC/university guidelines and emerging trends in psychology.
- Integrate innovative teaching methodologies, technology, and experiential learning into the curriculum.
- Contribute to Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and accreditation initiatives.
Research & Publications
- Conduct research in areas such as clinical psychology, counseling psychology, cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology, organizational psychology, or related fields.
- Publish research papers in reputed national and international journals.
- Present research findings at conferences, seminars, and workshops.
- Pursue funded research projects, consultancy, and interdisciplinary collaborations where applicable.
Student Guidance & Mentoring
- Supervise student projects, dissertations, and research work.
- Provide academic advising and career guidance.
- Encourage student participation in research, seminars, workshops, and psychological awareness programs.
- Support students in internships, fieldwork, and community outreach activities.
Departmental & Administrative Responsibilities
- Participate in departmental meetings, academic committees, and institutional activities.
- Organize seminars, conferences, workshops, guest lectures, and outreach programs.
- Maintain academic records, examination documentation, and student progress reports.
- Contribute to accreditation processes such as NAAC, NBA (where applicable), and other quality assurance initiatives.
Community & Professional Engagement
- Promote mental health awareness through counseling camps, outreach programs, and community initiatives.
- Build collaborations with hospitals, counseling centers, NGOs, educational institutions, and industries for internships and research opportunities.
- Engage with professional bodies and psychology associations to enhance academic and professional development.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Psychology (M.A./M.Sc. Psychology) with a strong academic record from a recognized university.
- NET/SET qualification and/or Ph.D. in Psychology, as per UGC/University norms.
- Specialization in Clinical, Counseling, Organizational, Educational, Cognitive, Social, or Applied Psychology is desirable.
Experience
- 2–5 years of teaching, research, counseling, or relevant professional experience.
- Candidates with research publications, project experience, or industry/clinical exposure will be preferred.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of psychological theories, research methods, assessment techniques, and counseling principles.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to mentor and support students academically and professionally.
- Research, analytical, and academic writing skills.
- Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., SPSS, R, or equivalent) and Microsoft Office.
- Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and digital teaching tools.
Preferred Competencies
- Experience in psychological assessment, counseling, or psychotherapy.
- Knowledge of ethics and professional standards in psychology.
- Ability to develop industry, healthcare, and community partnerships.
- Experience in organizing workshops, awareness programs, and research initiatives.
