Role Overview
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own end-to-end design and architecture of significant Android features or modules in Java; introduce Kotlin incrementally where appropriate.
- Drive performance improvements — startup time, memory, jank — with profiling-backed, measurable outcomes.
- Lead technical discussions, mentor SDE 2 engineers, and raise the overall quality bar for the Android codebase.
- Define coding standards, patterns, and CI/CD practices; guide gradual Kotlin adoption strategy across the team.
- Evaluate and integrate new Android platform capabilities; advocate for best-in-class user experience.
- Partner with product and infrastructure to define technical requirements, feasibility, and platform constraints.
- Decompose complex epics into milestones; drive delivery across sprint cycles with clear ownership.
AI-FIRST
- Champion Claude (Anthropic), OpenAI Codex, and GitHub Copilot adoption across the team; establish best practices for AI-assisted Java and Kotlin development.
- Architect on-device AI pipelines using Gemini Nano or ML Kit; evaluate build vs. integrate decisions for AI capabilities.
- Define telemetry strategy for AI features — latency, accuracy, and user engagement KPIs in production.
- Set guardrails for responsible AI use — data minimisation, on-device inference preference, and bias review processes.
