Job Summary
The Platform Engineer II – Unix/Linux is responsible for providing Tier 2 operational support across enterprise Unix/Linux environments, with a focus on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Satellite, patching, and clustered file systems including GFS2.
This role focuses on execution, troubleshooting, and operational stability, ensuring systems are maintained, patched, and performing efficiently. The engineer will support day-to-day operations and work closely with GCC leadership and US-based teams in a global delivery model.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure Support
Administer and support Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems in an enterprise environment
Manage system performance, resource utilization, and overall system health
Support and maintain Red Hat Satellite for patching, provisioning, and lifecycle management
Execute system patching and updates in alignment with security and compliance requirements
Support and troubleshoot GFS2 file systems including mounting, performance issues, and cluster-related dependencies
Perform routine operational tasks including server provisioning, configuration, upgrades, and decommissioning
Incident and Request Management
Respond to Tier 2 incidents and service requests across Unix/Linux platforms
Troubleshoot system-level issues including CPU, memory, disk, networking, and file systems
Investigate and resolve issues related to GFS2, including lock contention and performance degradation
Escalate complex issues to senior engineers when required
Document incidents, resolutions, and known issues accurately in ServiceNow and Jira
Change and Maintenance Activities
Execute approved changes in accordance with change management processes
Support patching cycles, system updates, and maintenance windows
Assist in validation and post-change verification activities
Vendor Coordination
Open and manage support tickets with vendors including Red Hat and related partners
Work with vendors to troubleshoot OS, Satellite, and file system issues
Track vendor cases through to resolution and provide updates as needed
Observability and Monitoring
Utilize observability and monitoring tools including Dynatrace and VMware Aria where applicable
Monitor system performance and respond to alerts across Unix/Linux environments
Assist in tuning alerts and improving monitoring effectiveness
Operational Excellence
Follow established runbooks, procedures, and operational standards
Ensure systems remain compliant with patching, security, and configuration requirements
Identify recurring issues and support continuous improvement efforts
Contribute to documentation and knowledge base updates

Required Qualifications
5 or more years of experience in Unix/Linux system administration in enterprise environments
Strong hands-on experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
Experience with Red Hat Satellite for patching and lifecycle management
Experience managing system patching and security updates
Experience supporting clustered file systems, including GFS2
Strong troubleshooting skills across OS, storage, and file systems
Experience using ServiceNow and Jira for incident, request, and change management
Experience working within ITIL-based processes
Strong communication skills in a global support environment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting large-scale enterprise Unix/Linux environments
Basic scripting experience such as Bash or Python
Exposure to hybrid environments (on-premises and cloud)
Familiarity with performance tuning and system optimization
