Background of The Hans Foundation
The Hans Foundation (THF), established in 2009, is a Public Charitable Trust that works towards creating an equitable society to enhance quality of life for all through the empowerment of marginalized and underprivileged communities in India. The Hans Foundation works for the Health and Wellbeing of remote and under-served groups, with an additional focus on children, persons with disabilities and women. THF also works for holistic Education and Livelihood development of our communities.
Our Two-Fold Strategy involves identifying and working within Aspirational Districts and high poverty index in the North, North-East and East regions within specific states, as well as catering to lower-income and migratory populations in cities, through urban programs. Over its 15 years of existence, THF has reached more than 35 million beneficiaries through its programs. THF works with communities through direct implementation of projects on the ground in addition to providing local management and monitoring support to not-for-profit organizations in India funded through THF USA and RIST.
Name of the Project: UNNATI – Inclusive Education
About project: Disability is a multi-dimensional and complex concept and there is no universally accepted, uncontroversial definition of disability. Awareness about persons with disabilities is slowly increasing with respect to nomenclature and certain visible characteristics. However, the attitudes toward persons with disabilities (PwD) is still one of charity and sympathy.
Schools in National Capital Region have access to resources and trained personnel including qualified teachers and Special Educators. In spite of this, inclusion alludes many children with disabilities. Inclusive education systems wherein each individual has equal opportunity for educational progress is a top global priority. Education systems that are designed to be inclusive, equitable and empowering can help build inclusive societies. The key to bringing about change and achieving social justice resides in the dynamic and natural relationship between education and society. By empowering schools to become inclusive, a large-scale impact can be created on all learners, with and without disabilities.
The goal of the Project: To improve the school ecosystem through inclusion and support for children with disability (CwD). Align with Sustainable Development, Goal 4 - Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
