About the Role
You'l be one of the first two engineers on the founding team. This is a software engineering role through and through—based within our Engineering organization, with a scope that spans software, product, and solutions engineering. You won't simply join this function; you'll help define how it works. As a Forward-Deployed Engineer (FDE), you'll work close to real customer and business problems, turn ambiguous requirements into production-ready software, and move rapidly from idea to implementation. You will own outcomes, not just tickets, and will have meaningful influence over architecture, product decisions, engineering practices, and the way FaresPlanet delivers technology to customers.
- Design, build, test, deploy, and operate production-grade software across the stack. Translate ambiguous business and customer requirements into clear technical solutions and working product experiences.
- Work directly with product, operations, business, and customer-facing stakeholders to understand problems and validate solutions.
- Own features and solutions end-to-end—from discovery and technical design through implementation, release, monitoring, and iteration.
- Build integrations, APIs, internal tools, automation, workflows, and customer-facing capabilities as business needs evolve.
- Make pragmatic architecture and technology decisions with an emphasis on reliability, maintainability, security, and speed of execution.
- Debug complex production issues, identify root causes, and implement durable fixes rather than temporary workarounds.
- Establish engineering standards, development practices, documentation, testing discipline, and deployment workflows as the founding engineering team grows. Use data, logs, customer feedback, and product metrics to evaluate whether solutions are actually delivering value.
- Collaborate with other early team members to shape product direction and identify opportunities where software can create leverage. 3–5 years of professional software engineering experience, ideally in a product, startup, SaaS, technology, or high-ownership environment.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, API design, databases, distributed systems fundamentals, testing, debugging, and version control.
- Hands-on experience building and shipping production software rather than only working on prototypes or isolated components.
- Ability to work across the stack and learn unfamiliar technologies quickly. Strong depth in one or more areas is valuable; rigid specialization is not required.
- Strong product sense and the ability to understand business context, user needs, and practical constraints.
- Comfort working with ambiguity, changing priorities, incomplete specifications, and high ownership.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
- A bias toward action: you can independently break down a large problem, identify the highest-leverage next step, and execute without excessive supervision.
- Experience with cloud platforms, CI/CD, observability, modern development workflows, and production operations is strongly preferred.
