Job Summary
Dr. Humayun Speciality Hospital is seeking a responsible, skilled, and safety-conscious Ambulance Driver with prior hospital experience to provide safe, timely, and efficient transportation of patients during emergency and non-emergency situations. The candidate must possess excellent driving skills, knowledge of emergency response procedures, and the ability to support the medical team while ensuring patient safety and ambulance readiness at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate hospital ambulances during emergency and scheduled patient transfers.
- Ensure prompt transportation of patients while following all traffic laws and emergency driving protocols.
- Assist paramedics, nurses, and doctors in safely loading and unloading patients.
- Provide assistance in handling stretchers, wheelchairs, and medical equipment.
- Maintain communication with the Emergency Department, Transport Department, and Control Room.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Ensure the ambulance is clean, sanitized, and fully equipped before every shift.
- Monitor fuel levels, engine condition, tyres, brakes, lights, oxygen cylinders, and emergency equipment.
- Immediately report vehicle defects, accidents, or maintenance issues.
- Complete transport logs, mileage records, fuel records, and patient transfer documentation.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Follow hospital policies, infection prevention protocols, and safety regulations.
- Ensure patient comfort and dignity during transportation.
- Be available for emergency calls, night shifts, weekends, and holidays as assigned.
Clinical & Emergency Support Responsibilities
- Assist clinical staff during patient transfers.
- Help secure patients using approved safety restraints.
- Ensure oxygen cylinders and emergency equipment are available and functional.
- Maintain readiness for emergency response at all times.
- Support disaster management and mass casualty situations when required.
- Follow Basic Life Support (BLS) procedures until clinical staff take over, if trained.
Vehicle Maintenance Responsibilities
- Conduct daily vehicle safety inspections.
- Ensure ambulance cleanliness and infection control standards.
- Check fuel, engine oil, coolant, battery, tyres, brakes, and lighting systems.
- Verify the availability and functionality of emergency lights and sirens.
- Coordinate routine servicing and preventive maintenance.
- Report repair requirements immediately.
Documentation Responsibilities
- Maintain ambulance trip sheets.
- Record patient pickup and drop timings.
- Maintain fuel consumption and mileage logs.
- Document vehicle inspection reports.
- Report incidents, accidents, or delays promptly.
QualificationsEducation
- Minimum 10th or 12th Pass.
- Valid Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) Driving License (Preferred) or Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) License as applicable.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification is an added advantage.
Experience
- 3–8 years of experience as an Ambulance Driver in a hospital is mandatory.
- Experience handling emergency patient transportation is preferred.
