- Name of Post: Lab Assistant
Duration: 01 Year (extendable based on performance and norms of IUCAA)
Pay/Remuneration: Rs. 40000/-
Age Limit: 28 Years
Qualification: M.Sc. or B. Tech. from a recognized University.
Experience: i) Experience of conducting lab experiments, preferably in astronomy. ii)
Experience in data analysis. Either of these criteria could be satisfied based on projects or labs
conducted in MSc.
- Skills: i) Ability to assist in the conduct of M. Sc. lab experiments, ii) Computer skills including
python programming, proficiency in using software for office work, astronomical image
analysis, iii) Ability to handle optical telescopes, detectors, and/or radio antennas, iv)
Maintenance of laboratory equipment v) have a creative mindset and positive scientific attitude.
vi) experience in optics, lasers, mechanical engineering (e.g. suspensions) will also be useful.
- Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist students and academic in-charge of the laboratory for conducting experiments
Prepare, update and maintain scientific manuals of the experiments
Help guide students in astronomical image analysis
Maintain conditions of the laboratory equipment
Assist students for night time observations
Assist in planning and developing new experiments
NOTE: -
The candidate is expected to be present for all IUCAA events, some of which will take place
at night and on weekends. The job will require extensive presence during night time
observations.
