Job Summary
ABODE School is seeking for a Book Bag Teacher who is responsible for supporting students' literacy development by conducting guided reading sessions, promoting reading habits, and managing the school's book bag programme. The teacher works closely with homeroom teachers to ensure students have access to age-appropriate reading materials that foster a lifelong love for reading and improve language skills.
Key ResponsibilitiesReading & Literacy Development
- Conduct guided reading sessions for primary students.
- Encourage students to develop strong reading habits and comprehension skills.
- Support vocabulary, fluency, pronunciation, and reading confidence.
- Motivate students to read independently and explore a variety of books.
Book Bag Programme
- Manage the daily and weekly distribution and collection of book bags.
- Ensure students receive books appropriate to their reading level and interests.
- Maintain records of books issued and returned.
- Inspect books regularly and report damaged or missing books.
- Coordinate with the library to ensure an adequate supply of reading materials.
Student Support
- Assess students' reading progress and provide additional support where required.
- Work closely with homeroom teachers to identify students needing literacy intervention.
- Encourage responsible handling and care of books.
Classroom & Administrative Responsibilities
- Organise reading corners and literacy resources.
- Plan engaging reading activities, storytelling sessions, and literacy events.
- Maintain accurate records related to student reading progress and book circulation.
- Assist in organising book fairs, reading challenges, and other literacy initiatives.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and school events.
- Collaborate with teachers to integrate reading into classroom learning.
- Perform other academic or administrative duties assigned by the school.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Education, English, Library Science, Child Development, or a related field.
- B.Ed. is preferred.
Experience
- 1–3 years of experience working with primary school students.
- Experience in literacy programmes, libraries, or classroom teaching is an advantage.
