The Rohru Centre serves as a residential and training facility that provides educational, rehabilitation, life-skills, and developmental support to children and adults with disabilities.
Position Summary
The Driver will be responsible for providing safe, reliable, and efficient transportation services for students, staff members, visitors, and materials related to the activities of the Rohru Centre. The incumbent will ensure the proper maintenance and upkeep of assigned vehicles while adhering to all road safety regulations and organizational policies.
The position requires a high level of responsibility, punctuality, integrity, and sensitivity while working with persons with disabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Transportation Services
- Safely transport students, staff, visitors, consultants, and stakeholders as assigned.
- Ensure timely pick-up and drop-off services for educational, rehabilitation, outreach, and administrative activities.
- Transport students to hospitals, medical appointments, therapy sessions, educational institutions, camps, and community programs.
- Assist persons with disabilities while boarding and deboarding vehicles whenever required.
- Ensure safe loading and unloading of luggage, assistive devices, educational materials, equipment, and supplies.
- Follow approved travel routes and schedules while maintaining flexibility for operational needs.
Vehicle Maintenance and Management
- Conduct daily inspections of assigned vehicles before and after use.
- Check fuel levels, engine oil, coolant, brakes, tyres, lights, indicators, battery, and other essential components.
- Ensure vehicle cleanliness, hygiene, and roadworthiness at all times.
- Report repairs, maintenance needs, breakdowns, and technical issues immediately.
- Coordinate with authorized service centres for vehicle servicing and repairs.
- Ensure that all vehicle-related documents remain updated and valid, including:
- Registration Certificate (RC)
- Insurance
- Pollution Under Control (PUC) Certificate
- Road Tax Documents
- Fitness Certificates
- Driving License
Documentation and Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate vehicle logbooks and travel records.
- Record mileage, fuel consumption, routes, destinations, and travel dates.
- Maintain records of servicing, repairs, and maintenance activities.
- Submit reports and documentation to the administration as required.
Safety and Compliance
- Strictly follow traffic laws and road safety regulations.
- Ensure passenger safety at all times.
- Avoid reckless driving, speeding, and unsafe practices.
- Follow emergency procedures during accidents, vehicle breakdowns, or medical emergencies.
- Ensure that safety equipment such as first-aid kits and emergency tools are available in the vehicle.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding organizational operations and beneficiary information.
Support to Centre Activities
- Provide transportation support during camps, workshops, trainings, awareness programs, and outreach activities.
- Assist with logistics and movement of materials during organizational events.
- Support administrative and operational tasks as assigned by the Centre Coordinator.
Required QualificationsEssential
- Minimum 10th Pass.
- Valid Commercial Driving License.
- Good knowledge of traffic rules and road safety regulations.
Preferred
- Experience driving in hilly terrain and rural areas.
- Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Experience working with NGOs, educational institutions, residential facilities, or rehabilitation centres.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of professional driving experience.
- Experience transporting children, students, elderly individuals, or persons with disabilities will be preferred.

- Frequent travel within Rohru and surrounding regions.
- Occasional travel outside the district and state.
- May require early morning, evening, weekend, or emergency transportation duties.
- Residential facility environment serving persons with disabilities.

Safeguarding and Child Protection
The Driver shall comply with Saksham's Child Protection Policy, Safeguarding Policy, Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Policy, and Disability Inclusion Guidelines. Any concerns related to safety, abuse, neglect, or misconduct involving beneficiaries must be reported immediately through established organizational mechanisms.
