Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive eye examinations, including visual acuity tests, refraction assessments, and ocular health evaluations.
- Diagnose and manage eye conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, astigmatism, and other ophthalmologic issues.
- Utilize EMR (Electronic Medical Records) and EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems to document patient histories, exam findings, treatment plans, and medical coding accurately.
- Educate patients on eye health, proper contact lens use, visual hygiene practices, and available treatment options.
- Perform vital signs measurements and maintain aseptic techniques during examinations to ensure patient safety.
- Collaborate with optical staff to recommend appropriate eyewear solutions and assist with sales when necessary.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations by safeguarding patient information and adhering to confidentiality standards.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of ophthalmology principles, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology relevant to eye care.
- Proven experience with optical equipment and understanding of optical prescriptions.
- Ability to assess pediatric patients effectively and deliver compassionate care tailored to children’s needs.
- Familiarity with medical coding practices related to optometry services for billing accuracy.
- Proficiency in using EMR/EHR systems for documentation and record management.
- Excellent customer service skills combined with a proactive sales approach for eyewear products.
