About the Role
We are looking for an experienced PHP Team Lead – MX Backend to lead our backend engineering team. In this role, you'll be responsible for designing and building scalable backend systems, mentoring developers, and driving engineering excellence across the team. You'll work closely with Product, Frontend, QA, and DevOps teams to deliver secure, reliable, and high-performing backend applications.
As a hands-on technical leader, you'll guide architectural decisions, enforce coding standards, conduct code reviews, and ensure best engineering practices while contributing to product development.
What You'll Do
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of backend developers.
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications using PHP.
- Build secure, reliable, and high-performance RESTful APIs.
- Develop and maintain applications using Laravel and/or CodeIgniter frameworks.
- Design, optimize, and maintain MySQL databases for high performance and scalability.
- Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards and engineering best practices.
- Implement API security, authentication, authorization, caching, and performance optimization techniques.
- Collaborate with Product, Frontend, QA, and DevOps teams to deliver high-quality software.
- Troubleshoot production issues and continuously improve application stability and performance.
- Drive technical discussions, architecture decisions, and engineering process improvements.
What We're Looking ForRequired Skills & Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in PHP backend development.
- Strong expertise in Laravel and/or CodeIgniter.
- Strong experience with MySQL, including database design, query optimization, and indexing.
- Good understanding of RESTful API design, API security, authentication, and authorization.
- Experience with caching technologies such as Redis or Memcached.
- Strong understanding of backend architecture, object-oriented programming, and software design principles.
- Prior experience leading a team of developers, mentoring engineers, and conducting code reviews.
- Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows.
Good to Have
- Experience with AWS services such as EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda, and SQS.
- Familiarity with Docker and containerization.
- Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
- Exposure to microservices architecture.
- Understanding of application security, scalability, and performance optimization.
